PLP: ‘Dishonest To Attach Marc Bean’s Name’

September 17, 2013

marc bean bermuda PLPThe PLP said that Opposition Leader Marc Bean — who serves as Co-Chair of the BermudaFirst Committee — was excluded from the decision making process and played no role in the statement welcoming the proposed amendments to the Incentives for Job Makers Act.

“It was dishonest and wrong to attach Mr. Marc Bean’s name to this statement,” a PLP spokesperson said.

BermudaFirst bills itself as a public/private, bipartisan forum led by Co-Chairs Premier Craig Cannonier and Opposition Leader Marc Bean, and businessmen Don Kramer, Gil Tucker and Peter Durhager.

A PLP spokesperson said, “The Incentive For Job Maker’s Act is a key component of the PLP’s vision for getting Bermudians back to work. For that reason, we welcome the tabling of this bill by the OBA and the opportunity to provide our perspective and ideas to make this work better for all Bermudians.

“Despite this, the PLP was deeply troubled by BermudaFirst’s public support of this bill in its current form. As Co-Chair of the Bermuda First Committee, the Opposition Leader should have been included in the discussions surrounding the suitability of the Incentives For Job Makers Act, its potential benefits and flaws.

“That would have been the open, accountable and transparent thing to do. Instead, the PLP’s Leader was excluded from the decision making process and played no role in the issuing of this statement by Bermuda First. It was dishonest and wrong to attach Mr. Marc Bean’s name to this statement.”

“We would have welcomed the opportunity to cooperate with our partners in BermudaFirst and find this regrettable. Despite this, we intend to work with the OBA to strengthen this bill, stand up for Bermudian jobs and opportunities while ensuring that Bermudians benefit from this Bill as much as they deserve.”

In response, a Bermuda First spokesperson said, “Since Bermuda First’s inception in 2009 we have committed to engaging in direct dialogue with our key stakeholders rather than through the media. To that end, we will do the same with our Co-Chair and Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. Marc Bean, JP MP.”

I would tend to believe Mr. Bean on this.
We know that he always puts self ahead of Country.
    how dare anyone suggest otherwise!!!!

    • Ringmaster says:

I agree. How dare the OBA and media link the PLP to anything positive to benefit Bermuda. Poor reporting.

    • Concerned Citizen says:

      Huh @ Gary?

  2. Nuffin but da Truth says:

    dishonest…this from the plp?
    how sick is that!!

  3. Concerned Citizen says:

I don’t see anything negative with this statement. The PLP appear to be supportive of the legislation, although with more concern that Bermudians fully benefit from it. If the Opposition Leader is the Co Chair of this, why wasn’t he included in discussions surrounding the groups position on the legislation, yet his name was attached to the statement? Is this another attempt by supporters of the Oba to preempt the up coming debate via the typical “third party propaganda”? I hope not, as a full debate on this issue is very important if it is to benefit all of us……unless the benefits are expected to ” trickle down”? Either way, this group is out of order and the statement loses credibility. That is a shame

  4. B. Trump says:

Thanks PLP for coming up with such a great idea and Solutions to move Bermuda forward. This we have yet to see from the OBAubp.

  5. micro says:

Was he really excluded or did he just refuse to be a part of it?

    • Sandy Bottom says:

Good question. In the past he promised to “fully participate” in Bermuda First. They seem to be getting on with the job, with our without him.

      • Hmmm says:

Perhaps he didn’t show up to meetings? Perhaps he thought he had better things to do. Perhaps he was putting road blocks in the way of progress…..Who knows. Where is Marc Bean at the moment and why can’t he speak for himself. Is he in Columbia too. Perhaps …. Who know? Marc could easily have answered this from his capacity of co chair. Why the PLP jumped all over it is very strange.

  6. Nice one says:

Who would ever do business with him!

  7. Triangle Drifter says:

Now why would anyone in the PLP, especially its leader want to be associated with anything positive in rectifying the utter economic disaster that the PLP left behind in December last year?

      • Milton says:

That’s why no matter how many names you come up with, we know it’s the same old guard. UBP/OBA. And it most certainly is an oligarchy.

    • Gone Gates says:

Hey Mazumbo how about these then
      P-Politicians L-Lying to P-People
      P-Politicians L-Lining P-Pockets

  9. Lay down! says:

PLP stop grasping at straws please! Its getting real boring! Thanks a REAL concerned citizen!

  10. Concerned Citizen says:

From my knowledge, all PLP leaders have willingly participated in Bermuda First, and I think it was Dr. Brown who helped put it together. Marc Bean is pro business and pro labour(yes, it’s possible to support both). I don’t hear him speaking negative rhetoric towards IB or any business. This is similar to when Min Fahy refered to him when making his term limits policy. It’s dishonest. That said, I’m interested to hear the PLP views on this legislation, after all, it’s an amendment to their law.

  11. Kickin says:

And if his name wasn’t….. They would complain that he was disrespected by being left out…. Shut up and do the job we pay you for!!!

  12. navin johnson says:

..what could Mr. Bean possibly ad to anything as he is not around that much and is almost unintelligible when he speaks….

    • Johnny says:

@navin johnson – It’s ironic you making that comment and you can’t even spell a simple word like “add”.

  13. Johnny says:

@navin johnson – It’s ironic you making that comment and you can’t even spell a simple word like “add”.

    • Navin R. Johnson says:

Sorry For the typo Johnny at least you knew what I meant …..and Bean is still unintelligible when he speaks…

  14. Raymond Ray says:

The P.L.P.know when all you have is lemons you make lemonade…add a bit of sweetener and people will say,” ummmm that nice bie’”

  15. MCP says:

Man up or grow some! I have been on several boards and committees in my life and for one reason (excuse) or the other have not been able to attend every single called meeting for them. I have even had to defend decisions the collective quorum agreed to that I was not in full agreement with; Decisions made while I was absent and should have been in attendance. My name was apart of the board roster whether I chose to attend or not do so. No one grabbed his name out of a hat and stuck it in the BermudaFirst Committee against Marc’s will.

Will you please grow up or sit down. This level of complaint is fully pathetic in nature and should be very embarrassing to Marc Bean. The positions held by the members of this group demand strong character, a thick skin, and at minimum some integrity.

Please find something of substance to grumble about. You are losing the support base for for this trivial nonsense. Grasping at straws is now a behaviour that has become so obvious that we are embarrassed for you.

If you are that busy, resign from the committee, if not accept the accolades or rebukes from the decisions your committee makes. But for goodness sake suggesting your committee members are dishonest for representing the documented members of BermudaFirst Committee when decisions are made is disgusting and desperate! Stop wasting space in the media. News stories like this do nothing positive for your political party. Nothing!! Mr. Bean you are very intelligent. Please take some control of your party members who usher mess like this to the news outlets.

    • Concerned Citizen says:

@mcp, ummmmm, it’s not trivial at all. What does co-chair mean to you, since you claim to have sit on many boards? Integrity is what the PLP are calling for. Bean represents the Opposition, whose job is to debate this upcoming legislation. By attaching his name to Bermuda first statement , this group has attempted to preempt the debate and position of the Opposition, and ties their hands. Further, the Premier is the co-chair of the same organization. Both are co-chairs, so this statement would make it appear that both leaders have preempted the debate, and came to a position outside of their respective caucus? Again, it’s about integrity, something that seems to know longer exist in some quarters. The ends do not justify the means………

    • Concerned Citizen says:

Btw, do you know if and when Bermuda First meets? What if they didn’t meet, and haven’t met for months, yet put out a statement like this? Who would put out the statement and why, if they haven’t met? Some of you folks have know idea how to apply good governance principals.

  16. watching says:

The sentiments expressed in these comments show the immaturity and nonsensical attitude that many possess.
