Bermuda Bravery Awards Honour Local Heroes

October 30, 2013

Last night [Oct 29] several local residents were recognised for deeds of heroism at the annual Bermuda Bravery Association Awards ceremony at Government House.

The highlighted incidents of bravery included two police officers dragging horses and cattle from blazing stables, while another involved the rescue of three passengers from a vehicle on a cliff on the South Shore after it had skidded off the road.

Richard Dickenson

On Feb 19, 2010, at Coot Pond, St Georges he swam out to rescue and save the life of Eugene Broadley, a stroke survivor, from drowning.

Dr Devon Binns & Barrie Cohen

At the Waterlot Inn in Southampton on August 19, 2011, the two men used the Heinrich Maneuver to save the life of Teddy Chapman, a patron, who was choking on a piece of meat.

PC Gavin Richardson & WPC Tiffany DeSilva

On January 27, 2012 they responded to a 911 call for a structural fire at a horse stable on the Railway Trail, Cobbs Hill Road, Warwick. They entered the blazing stables and set free the horses and farm animals that were going wild with terror.

Paul Farrington

July 1977: At age 15 while swimming on Shelley Bay Beach, he rescued and saved a 3-year-old Kelvina Wilson from drowning. They came face to face again last night after many years.

Lucius Lindo & Errol Vessell

On May 30th, 2011, while working at the Fairmont Southampton golf course, they responded with colleagues to rescue Kim Rhoda-Bean and her two children after their car skidded off the road in Southampton and came to rest on the edge of a steep-faced cliff embankment. They risked their lives to save all three passengers in the car.
