Man Pleads Guilty To Assault, Damaging Property

October 9, 2013

A 43-year-old man appeared in Magistrates Court this morning [Oct 9] where he pleaded guilty to assaulting his girlfriend’s daughter.

Larry Whitter pleaded guilty to unlawfully assaulting the young woman, and damaging her glasses, laptop computer which, between them, were worth over $1,000.

Crown Prosecutor Nicole Smith told Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo that Whitter lived with the young woman’s mother and Mr Whitter agreed that this was the case.

The Crown Prosecutor told the Magistrate that in July 2013, the pair had been in the house when the young woman heard a noise. On investigating, she saw that Mr Whitter had broken the screen on her laptop.

On asking about that, Mr Whitter had gotten angry, pushed her to the floor and damaged her glasses, and then thrown the laptop down causing further damage. The young lady and her mother moved out soon after.

Magistrate Tokunbo ordered a Social Inquiry Report, set sentencing for late November, and released Mr Whitter on $2,000 bail with a proviso that he must not have any contact with the young woman.

They paint a pretty little innocent picture indeed. I think more than one social inquiry needs to be carried out. The truth will come out eventually for this family who has a long history of……….

I am not for any kind of abuse. However, as was said, unfortunately I always wonder if some information was not mentioned in the paper. I am not assuming, just wondering. Glad that it didn’t gwt worse. But after reading some of these comments. Not as clear cut. We read female and automatically assume only the male as issues in situations like this. I know what I an talking about.

Of course I do not know the details but he didn’t fly off the handle for no reason. I am not supporting his actions. It is a possibility that he didn’t like what she was doing on the laptop etc.did she mouth him off. How old is she? I do not want to assume but there has got to be more. We know that her part is not going to be reported because one would say that it doesn’t matter. Is the mom a disciplinarian? Does he not tolerate sassy backtalk? Come on. More to the reason.

  6. Life today n all its additional stresses, is like walking thru a mine field; whereas one HAS to make sure, that they don’t step on one or any of those mines. Prehaps one of them or both of them found a “mine” that should not have been inclusive. So “boom” it went n so did he.
    Just saying.
However these are very trying n precarious times n everybody is on edge n no one never ever knows when anyone may snap. Yet we still got this black on black violence n it ain’t no stopping it now.
Many things about today or tomorrow I don’t seem to understand….does anyone?
    Stay tuned…….more YET…to come!!!
