Olympic Medalist To Speak At Triathlon Dinner
Two time Olympic medalist Bevan Docherty [pictured] will be speaking at the 2013 Bermuda Triathlon Association’s Annual Awards Dinner at the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club on Saturday, November 23rd.
Mr Docherty, who is from New Zealand, won a silver medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens and claimed the bronze at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.
In the past two years the 36 year old has turned his attention to longer distance racing and has already made a considerable impact over the Half Ironman [70.3] and Ironman racing scene.
In 2012 he won a bronze medal in the Ironman 70.3 World Championships. Docherty started 2013 with a bang winning Ironman New Zealand in his home town of Taupo in a record time and went on to win 70.3 Boise in June 2013 and Vineman 70.3 in July 2013 against a strong field, and breaking the course record.
Dave Morrison, who is coordinating events around Docherty’s visit and has known him for some years, has been trying to get Docherty to the island for some time and met up with Docherty in September at his home in Santa Cruz, California.
“He is really excited about the trip as he has heard so much about Bermuda and of course knows Flora Duffy and Tyler Butterfield ”, says Mr Morrison. “ He is a wonderful ambassador for the sport and has a great sense of humour and I know that our local triathletes will enjoy spending time with Bevan. “
Tickets are now on sale at Sportseller and cost $65 or $30 for under 12s. The ticket price includes dinner and there will be a cash bar.
