Poet Malcolm London To Perform At Chewstick

malcolm londonThe Chewstick Foundation invites the community to experience a dynamic evening of poetry featuring Chicago Poet, Activist, Teacher and 2011 Louder Than A Bomb Poetry Festival Winner, Malcolm London in his international debut performing at The Chewstick Lounge this Saturday, October 26th.

Called the Gil-Scott Heron of this generation by Cornel West, he has shared stages with actor Matt Damon and artist Lupe Fiasco as a part of the The People Speak, Live! cast. He also appears on Season 2 of TVOne’s Verses & Flow and appears on PBS for the first TED Talk television program with John Legend, Bill Gates, & Geoffrey Canada.

Mr London is a passionate teaching artist on staff at Young Chicago Authors where he visits schools introducing their work to hundreds of students through writing workshops and performances.

Malcom London is here as a guest of the Bermuda Union of Teachers with who he will be conducting workshops throughout the week; and the Chewstick Foundation was fortunate to have met Mr London through its involvement through the Brave New Voices Poetry & Spoken Word Festival this year and said they are happy be able to broaden his community involvement with a performance at their facility on the corner of Elliot Street and Court Street, during his short visit.

This will be the young poet’s first time performing outside of the United States and they anticipate an evening of heartfelt, dynamic poetry. Opening acts Kevina-Lorae and Matthew Johnston, both poets that have come through the ChewSLAM Teen Poetry & Spoken Word Club, as well as shared their performing talents both locally and abroad, are honored to add to Mr London’s international debut.
