Search For New Ombudsman Gets Underway

October 10, 2013

Government House has launched a search for a new Ombudsman to succeed Ms Arlene Brock, whose 8-year term of office comes to an end early next year.

Governor George Fergusson said today, “Bermuda owes a lot to its independent watchdogs, such as the Ombudsman and the Auditor-General – the two current office holders have set the highest possible standards of probity, professionalism and independence.

“Ms Brock will finish her 8-year term next year. It has been a highly distinguished period of service, creating the role and gaining formal recognition from her fellow Ombudsman in the wider Commonwealth.

“She will be a hard act to follow but I am sure there will be excellent candidates ready and willing to take on this important, unusual and sometimes testing job which is a vital part in maintaining public confidence in the way the public service works.”

The Job description is available from the Deputy Governor’s Office.

Congratulations to our Bermudian Ombudsman Mrs. A Brock. She has done an outstanding job in her role as Bermuda’s first Ombudsman. Thanks to Dame Jennifer Smith who had the foresight to ensure that such an office was set up in Bermuda. I am sad that her term has come to an end, I only hope and pray that the OBAubp government will replace her with another qualified Bermudian, as the OBAubp seem to be pro-Bermudians.

Well done Mrs. Brock in your role as our first Ombudsman.

    Can she be reinstalled?
