Hope you’re ok buddy.
The one thing I’ve noticed from Bermuda drivrrs is a real disrespect for pedestrians. Drivers don’t seem to slow down at cross walks and others over take on cross walks. A real scary thing using them in Bermuda. I still say we don’t have enough of a police presence to deter bad driving behaviour and cameras are no use without enforcement!
Although I do agree with you that drivers’ disrespect for pedestrians is a problem I can’t ignore the fact that some people just don’t pay attention when crossing the road either. I’ve seen a few kids just amble across the street without paying attention to oncoming traffic. everyone on a whole needs to be more cautious on the road.
I have to agree. The crossing on front street by barrs park has lights to press so people know you are crossing . I drive through there daily and I might see one person a week use them. I’ve also noticed that they just like to cut across to the crosswalk as well without breaking a stride ( by the time they are walking on the crosswalk they are 3-4 feet in the road already).
That being said I hope the child is alright and ALL of us need to pay more attention on the road.
You need lights to show you if someone is crossing on a crosswalk? I feel sorry for anyone who crosses you on a crossing without lights.
Thanks for the smart-a** response, but i don’t. If you have been by there during rush hour there are usually a line of cars it is almost impossible to see the sidewalk and several times i have crept through to discover that someone is already halfway across behind a car.
My point is someone installed lights to ensure a safer environment a lot of pedestrians obviously don’t think they should use them.
The one thing I have noticed about Bermudian pedestrians is that they head is firmly planted in their a$$ .Roads are ment for cars and motorbikes and if you must walk on the roads then high visibility clothing and staying as far over as possible is a must. Runners who run in the road when there are sidewalks available are simply a menace and an accident waiting to happen. Pedal bikers are no better. We have fields and the railway trail to run on for exercise. Those who run or cycle two abreast during rush hour traffic must have a death wish or simply no consideration for others. No where else in the world can people play in traffic like here then blame the driver when they are hit. To those a who do this , you are simply stupid
In Bermuda being able to walk on the roads is considered a right while driving a car is a privilege & that’s why we don’t have J walking laws but we have laws against reckless driving. You’re the one who has their head up their backside if you don’t know this fact. You’re welcome to take your false assumptions to an open highway in America where there are no pedestrians or pedal cyclists. Although I would take caution out there as there are real menaces who travel in packs on motorcycles who will not give a second thought to ripping you out of your vehicle taking out their own type of justice on you if they don’t like your driving. If I was you I would swallow my pride & take the fitness fanatics over conceal & carry fanatics of the U.S. Then again you’re not me & seem to lack the common sense of care, caution & courtesy I was instilled with growing up in good old Bermuda.
Ok tommy lets see of your divine right to walk in the middle of the road saves you from being hit. Vehicles are mechanical and can malfunction , walking in the road is not smart.
I never typed walking in the middle of the road I typed walking in the road meaning on the side regardless of whether there’s a sidewalk to walk on or not walking on the side is my right & is still considered walking on the road. Anyone who hits me while I’m walking on the side better hope I don’t get up because if I do they will become the Bermudian version of that Alexian guy who messed with the NYC bikers. Not saying the bikers were right but neither is anyone who decides to run over someone just because they are in their path. In the instance of a pedestrian I feel I they all the rights in the world to assure their safety from vehicles running them over & if the police or courts wont do anything to deter this than pedestrians should.
Tommy your thinly veiled threats are laughable. As far as state side is concerned , I guarantee my AR-15 would stop anyone pulling me out of my vehicle and as far as bermy is concerned, I wish someone would try what you are insinuating . If I’m driving with my children in the car and bus is coming the other way and someone is in the road, I have 2 options if not enough time to stop 1 run head on into a bus injuring numerous people or hitting the person in the road what one would you choose my friend?
Who’s threatening? I’m only laying out a scenario of someone hitting me & what comes next if I got up from the bang. Besides why would I threaten someone on the other end of a computer I’ve never met. Trust me if I had to deal with anyone it wouldn’t be over petty words on a screen it would be for something detrimental to me or my family. It’s all hypothetical so there’s no reason to get your panties in a bunch.
Both you & I know you wouldn’t be carrying an AR-15 in your vehicle at arms reach especially after Obama’s push to ban them. You would be an easy target for ATF to arrest. On the other hand the good ol boys riding them choppers don’t go anywhere alone & feel no way about carrying a glock 31 in the conceal pocket of their cut. That’s why whenever I’m on the stateside highways & I see the H.A. or any of the other one percenters come up behind me I let them pass me & give a smile & a nod. Like Sweet Brown says, “Ain’t Nobody Got Time For That.”
In your scenario of the bus at 35kmph you would have plenty of time to slow down & break unless you are impaired somehow & in that case shouldn’t be operating any vehicle. At 35kmph there’s no excuse.
ok tommy chong you are a complete @$$ for real driving in bermuda is a privilage and walking is a right? ya dun das y dey have side walks and idc how old u are or how long you have been driving or walking( which is apperantly is a right) you should know even at 35kph you will never stop on a dime so if a dum @$$ decides to jus walk out in the road dont u think they askin to get hit dont u think? y walk in the road if u no wa can happen all ya sayin is drivers and riders this and that but wen ya driving along the road and some one like yourself steps out with out looking what ya telling me ya goin jam on ya brakes n let d numerous cars or bikes behind u slam into ya car so u ca get money ouuta dem to fix ya car cus some a$$ wasnt payin attention. i bet ya smart a$$ didnt no 35 may keep u alive but u try come to a complete stop from that speed you can break ya neck jus from the air bag or even jus d sudden jolt from a car hitting u from behind can cost sever damage n imma ask u this say a guy on a bike is behind u doin 35kph and you slam on ya brakes wen he comes through ya back window and brakes his/her neck wa ya goin say oh he shouldnt have been so close?? for real bra go get a life
You young bredren are a proctologist’s fantasy. I can see where your priorities lie & yes in more than one of your scenarios they shouldn’t have been so close.
Also since when does an airbag deploy at a 20mph stop without a collision?
Pedestrians have right of way.
This gets on my last nerve. I travel to work at 6:15am and have had to swerve too many times because walkers & runners have dark clothing on in the dark. Where is the common sense here? A reflective ban don’t cost much & i’m sure they have white shirts & lighter pants/shorts then can wear
What a bone headed attitude.
10 bucks says that yadon is a fatty.
No worries Yadon, the runners and cyclists that you are intimidating on the highways will help keep your healthcare costs down by EXERCISING their equal right to share the road.
100 bucks says yadon is very fit and the guy ya women thinks about when she with ya sorry a**
I have to agree with him, it irritates me when someone runs in the road right next to a sidewalk, it’s kind of stupid actually. When I run I take a route that has sidewalks, there’s about a 150m stretch that doesn’t and I hug as close to the wall as I can for those 20 seconds. If there is no sidewalk, cool, if there is then use it. What really pisses me of though, is when I see people walking baby strollers in the road next to a sidewalk, I don’t care if its easier because the sidewalk has grass, your idiocy is putting an infant at risk and it’s called exercise for a reason.
Unfortunately this young man ran across the road where a pedestrian was not located. I hope he will be fine & learn from this mistake. We ALL have to be very careful especially when the kids are going to & from school
Do you suggest he cross the street at the pedestrian crossing at Arnold’s Supermarket or at White Hill? Those are the nearest pedestrian crossings to where this accident happened. I’m not great at distances, but my best guess is that it’s a mile either way from where the accident took place. Maybe we need more crossings or people should just slow down.
Three children being hit by vehicles in such a short time period…
all the years that went by before that with no kids struck….
Very odd irony…
It’s not that odd considering the lack of common courtesy combined with having an oversized vehicle happening on the roads in the past years. There have been other kids struck by vehicles before this time plus adult pedestrians & it has increased since size regulations on vehicles was scrapped. There are people who have vehicles considered as light trucks in the majority of other countries because they are classed as cars here. If these people had to take a light truck licence test instead of a car licence test as they do I guarantee most would fail.
Tommy, this accident was nothing at all to do with the size of the vehicle. And neither was the other one today.
I typed ack of common courtesy combined with having an oversized vehicle not just the oversized vehicle. Plus what evidence do you have that it was nothing to do with the size of the vehicle?
Size of a vehicle is always a factor in how much it takes to control it. This is why most driving test in the world will have different levels of testing for different sizes. This used to be true here but now you can get a licence for a vehicle weighing as much as a light truck by passing a test in a small driving instructors car.
People need to slow down and respect walkers and runners!!!! Sometimes people do not want to burn gas by driving to a field if theres a perfectly good road to go on. It would be nice if there was sidewalk everywhere but theres not so drivers should slow down in these areas. Even police.
As both a pedestrian, cyclist, biker and driver the majority of bikers and car drivers on Bermudian roads are reckless and have little regard for speed limits, pedestrians and the rules of the road. Yes the roads are windy and most too narrow for pavements, but that’s why we have low speed limits. Drie slow, anticipate that theri may be a pedestrian, at these speed limits you should be able to STOP saly if you come across one, and when the other side of the road is clear, overtake them. Get out of your fat cars and walk your fat arses and see what it’s like being pedestrian. Then perhaps you will drive with respect for the law and human life.
And the police are complicate in that they do not crack down on speeding. In fact it’s encouraged up to a degree!
Slow down everyone.
