Corona League Bermuda, October 3, 2013-1[Updated] The Corona League 2013-14 season is set to get underway with all 10 teams signing up for the new season: BAA Wanderers, Flanagan’s Onions, Lobster Pot, Lock & Key, North Village Community Club, Robin Hood FC, Tuff Dogs Sports Club, Valley, Vasco Da Gama and West End United.

Corona League President Mike McGrath said, “This exciting new season will start with the Coronita Charity Shield on Friday 4th October, warming us all up for the much anticipated start of the league which kicks off on Friday 11th October with all the teams wanting to see if their pre seasons have paid off.

“We have a break for Christmas and with the Bistro Challenge Cup rounds filtered into the schedule. The league continues until 5th April which will give us the 5th name to be engraved on to the Corona League Trophy, and we all hope it goes right down to the wire as it did last season.

“The game times will be the same as last season, with Friday games kicking off at 6.30pm and 8.30pm and Saturdays 2pm, 4pm and 6pm

“The Corona league has always been a family affair and that’s true even for our sponsors as Corona has brought its little brother Coronita to the party to sponsor this season’s Charity Shield game so we can continue to give back to the community with entertaining football for the family to spectate as well as financially to charity.

“This year’s game sees Corona League winners Robin Hood take on Bistro Challenge cup winners Tuff Dogs at 7pm this Friday at BAA’s Goose Goslings field.

“With the continued support of the Bermuda Bistro at the Beach we again have the Bistro Challenge Cup as our knock out cup competition which will start on the 6th December with the climax of the cup competition coming with the final on Saturday 12th April with the All Star game kicking off before the final to warm us up for the main event but you’ll have to wait till then to see if a new name makes its way onto the cup.

“We have retained the transfer window for the Corona League which allows players that have already played in the league to move from any top half table team to any lower half table team. Refreshing the league midway through the season and strengthen the lower sides. The window will be open for the 1st 2 weeks in January and peaks the interest for the start of 2014

“This season sees the introduction of the Sportsman of the week award which will celebrate the best part of the game of football. This award isn’t just for the players but everyone involved in the Corona league including the spectators, medics, coaches, referees and players.

“Five names will be posted and the public can vote for their favourite on our Facebook page. We will also be on Twitter and with our updated website about to be launched everyone will be able to keep right up to date with all the happenings with the league.

Mr McGrath continued, “In closing I would like to thank the board members for all the hard work they do and time they donate to make the league work. As well as a big thank you to all of our sponsors who support us and have shown us such faith in the league over the last 4 years. Working together we have managed to create such an enjoyable league for the players and community.

“I would especially like to thank Corona, Goslings and Charles Gosling not only for being our title sponsor, but also providing us with this venue today and some ice cold Coronas and Coronitas.”
