36 Students Qualify For Dual College Enrollment
36 S4 Berkeley Institute students have tested into college level courses and are eligible for dual enrollment during the Bermuda College’s Spring 2014 semester. The students took the Bermuda College’s Placement Exam earlier this school year.
A spokesperson said, “We have two additional students, Clevon Cunningham and Jordan Bascome who tested successfully into both English and Math as part of the dual enrollment programme while they were in Si and 52 respectfully.
“The dual enrollment program is similar to the Advanced/Honours programs available in North American high schools where students can get a jump start on college/university courses. The students are very excited about the prospect of being able to earn college credit while they are in secondary school.”
“There is a keen sense of achievement in the air with this year’s senior students as they are all looking ahead to the next steps in their educational journey,” indicates Brenton Burgess, Head of Student Services.
A total of 25 students have qualified for Freshman English, 6 students have qualified for College Algebra and a further 5 students have qualified for both Freshman English AND College Algebra including Antoine Jackson, Dymond DeSilva, Seta Douglas, Sierra Fubler and Ayana Ming-Bean. Students will begin their college courses at Bermuda College in January.
Acting Principal Keisha Douglas said, “We are extremely proud of our students as we pride ourselves as a diverse senior school with a rich heritage and tradition of excellence. Our students continue to uphold this tradition and their hard work and commitment to their studies has paid off.
“A special thank you to our Student Services Department, our English and mathematics teachers who have assisted the students along the way and to the Bermuda College, namely Mrs. Tammy Richardson, Mr. Thao Dill and Ms. Necheeka Trott who continue to partner with us in the best interest of our students.”
