BEDC To Host Seminar On Vendor Markets
On Tuesday [Nov 19] the BEDC will be hosting a Vendor event titled “Bermuda’s Vendor Markets – Identify Your Niche”.
The event is the third of a three part series which will focus on identifying which vendor market is your best fit, what works and what doesn’t, and as well as expose attendees to the requirements and opportunities of the various Government Organisations that interact with vendors.
Event organiser Erica Smith states, “BEDC’s EEZA remains vigilant in its mandate to support vendors and the vendor markets through vendor training, market knowledge, as well as the provision of site materials. We are excited that the 3 markets we support – Rubber Tree Market, Olde Towne Market, and Hidden Treasures Market – have grown in a number of ways over the years.
“One of our key vendor market aims is to deliver our best vendor market service in the most effective and efficient manner. We believe our precedent-setting Fall series of skills development workshops for the benefit of all vendors achieves this and so far has been a success with over 100 persons attending the first 2 seminars held on October 22nd and November 5th.”
The November 19th event will have representatives from each of the Island’s 6 established vendor markets. There will be a panel presentation and facilitated discussion with Joanne MacPhee, Chamber of Commerce’s Harbour Nights; Cheryl Hayward-Chew, St. George’s Olde Towne Market; Marita Hinds, Somerset’s Hidden Treasure’s Market; Danilee Trott, City of Hamilton’s City Market; Rebekah Cabrall, Wedco’s Destination Dockyard; and a representative from the Rubber Tree Market.
After the panel discussion the event will shift into an Information & Vendor Market Trade Show with information tables from each vendor market as well as relevant Government Departments such as Department of Environmental Health and Department of Parks. Attendees will be able to network and visit each table to have specific questions answered and obtained further detailed information for their vending business.
Mrs. Smith who is the Director of BEDC’s Economic Empowerment Zones Agency added that “This 3rd seminar will be a little different in content and format than the first 2 as we wish for the attendees to hear firsthand from each of the 6 established vendor markets on the island why they started, how they operate, when they operate, what is their brand/niche, what do vendors need to know, etc. in order to decide on which is the best fit for their vending businesses.
“Also since they have all been operating for a number of years to share some thoughts around what works and what doesn’t. We also want vendors/peddlars to be exposed to all the government requirements and information that they need to know so that their business venture can be the best it can be. Hence including a networking/trade show/information table segment to the event. This is a chance to address this growing business segment directly.”
The event will be held at the Manchester Unity Lodge Hall, 71 Victoria Street, Hamilton [Corner of Union & Victoria Streets] from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm. To register in advance, please email info@bedc.bm or call 292-5570. Registration is $15 for BEDC Members and $20 for all others.
Those who had attended the previous vendor seminars will receive a discount of $10. Light refreshments & Networking will take place from 5:30 to 6pm with the Information & Vendor Market Trade Show to take place from 7:00 to 8:00 pm after the panel presentations. Walk-ins are welcome. Attendance at all 3 workshops will gain participants a Certificate of Completion.
