Dandy Town Defeat Cougars, Win Dudley Eve
The Dandy Town Hornets met up with the Devonshire Cougars today [Nov 11] in the Dudley Eve final, with Dandy Town walking away victorious after a hard fought match that went down to penalties.
Damon Ming gave the Dandy Town Hornets a 1 – 0 lead in the fourth minute when he curled a right footed shot from the edge of the box that left Devonshire Cougars goalkeeper Daniel Johnson stranded.
The Cougars created chances, but were denied twice by the Dandy Town Hornets goalkeeper Treadwell Gibbons, who first dove to his right to save a Domico Coddington strike and then he tipped a Chris Caisey shot over the bar.
In the 28th minute the lead was doubled, however in the 40th minute a long ball forward from the Devonshire Cougars defense was headed on by Caisey, and Kwame Steede was on hand to calmly slot the ball pass an advancing Gibbons to pull the Cougars within one.
The half came to an end with the score Devonshire Cougars 1 – Dandy Town Hornets 2. In the 73rd minute Deashun Butterfield of the Dandy Town Hornets was shown his second yellow card within minutes and was sent off.
In the 84th minute Coddington was brought down in the box and Steede stepped up and beat Gibbons to his right from the spot to draw the Devonshire Cougars level. Neither team could find the back of the net for the remainder of regulation time sending the match into extra time.
Neither team could break the deadlock in extra time, so he game would be decided with kicks from the penalty mark.
