Video: Digicel Announce $50,000/Car Promo
[Updated with video] Digicel Bermuda has launched a new campaign entitled ‘Brighten Someone’s Christmas’ giving new customers automatic entry into a Christmas Draw featuring over 300 prizes worth more than $50,000 including a new Kia Soul car from Bermuda Motors.
The promotion will run from November 8th through December 24th offering all new and existing Digicel Prepaid, Postpaid and Internet customers the opportunity to participate and win one of 60 weekly prizes including: one month free Digicel Service, $50 Digicel Prepaid Credit, $50 iTunes cards, Samsung Galaxy S4 Smartphones, Google Chromebooks, spa vouchers and $500 vouchers to spend at any local business.
“Christmas is the time of year for giving and sharing,” comments Wayne Caines, CEO of Digicel Bermuda. “We are delighted to take the first step in brightening the holiday season for hundreds of Bermudian families and we can’t wait to see the smiles of those who will win big with Digicel.”
Digicel Prepaid customers have two ways to enter the Christmas Draw: Top Up with $20 or subscribe to a Digicel Prepaid Daily Plan. Each Top Up of $20 and each day a Digicel Prepaid Daily Plan is active on a subscriber’s account will qualify as automatic entry, while Digicel Postpaid customers who activate a new account will be entered.
Customers signing up for Digicel Internet or a Digicel Bundle this Christmas season can also join in the prize fun. They will be entered into the draw for free service, iTunes cards and the grand prize draw just for signing up.
Digicel Internet plans and Digicel Bundles are 25% off for one year. Additionally, new customers will receive free Digicel Stream, a new service offering Netflix content to Digicel Internet subscribers, for one year.
“Digicel Stream is a new service that we are very excited to offer to our home internet customers this Christmas,” states Wayne Caines. “Beginning on December 1, those customers who are signing up during our Christmas promotion will have free access to Netflix content on their TVs or computers using only their home internet connection and a Netflix enabled device, like a Wii, Xbox or a smart TV.”
Shane Mora, Marketing Director of Digicel Bermuda adds, “We are hoping that our customers embrace the spirit of this this campaign, which is to Brighten Someone’s Christmas. We have a full schedule of events planned and look forward to having our customers join us in sharing the joy of Christmas with loved ones.”
Digicel’s weekly prize winners will be drawn beginning November 20th and the grand prize draw is scheduled to take place on December 23rd.

I think it is pretty crap that the postpaid customers (myself included) who Digicel can rely on month to month for a budgeted amount and who pay their bills on time can only be eligible for this if I sign up a new account!?!? Whereas the prepaid customers get in on the action for only $20 topup.
Digicel – where is the love for your existing/long-term customers who have been with you since the beginning?
no love for long term/existing customers…smh
I totally agree.
Typical Digicell hype, the don’t give a crap about their existing customer base, all they want to do is try to make themselves look good, current customers NEVER get a mention…without which where would they be?
That’s exactly why I switched. I was Telecom, AT&T, Cingular and Digicel customer. They had a promotion on phones which I wanted to take advantage of and needed since I wasn’t working 40 hours a week. The discount for new customers was much better than for long term customers and they wouldn’t budge. So I switched to Cellone. These companies just don’t get it.
Treat your existing customers as good or better than new customers when it comes to plans , promotions and discounts. If you treat us well and give us good service you wont need to spend as much on marketing, advertising etc…. word of mouth is far better.
would be great if Digicel put half the effort into their network as they do into the “in the face” marketing!!
Hi Everyone,
Thanks for the feedback on our promotion. Please know that existing customers can enter as follows:
- Purchase a bundle which includes ISP and Cellular services at reduced rates. The 25% discount available for a Bundle is attractive and offers savings all year round.
- Sign up for Internet service with us, it’s also 25% off.
- There will be other opportunities with our Christmas phone sale which will absolutely apply to existing customers so stay tuned!

We hope that we can brighten your Christmas with one of our 300 prizes or the Grand Prize!
This still places existing customers in a predicament where they have to spend more money, whereas prepaid customers only have to top up with a measly $20.00 in order to enter. What if I already have a phone (which is already locked into a contract) and internet. These other people are getting entered just by using the phone they have, which postpaid customers do not have the luxury of. Mr Caines, appreciation needs to be shown to long term postpaid customers. Maybe automatic entry for people with service longer than 5 years…but they need to come up with something to retain customers or they will see an exodus as peoples’ contracts come to an end.
As a prepaid customer who spends approximately between 450-500. dollars amonth every month topping up , i have to speak for digicel that the pre-paid customer base spends as much and at times even more than post paid . Please do not assume that per-paid customers are not spending money in the same manner of post paid. Consistent topping up has been factored in and proven to be as reliable, as the money is paid… no need yo bill.. use your thinking caps …
Use yours, you’re making them rich and that’s why they appeal to you. Say there’s 1000 pre-pajd customers that run out out to top up so they can be entered, that’s 20g in the bank. I wouldn’t brag about paying more for a crappy service, I’ve had no problems with cell one since I DROPPED digicel.
I have been with both carriers and i prefer digicel. Why.. because i personally have not had any major problems.. when i have .. i have been met with helpful and gracious service. Also when i go into the store.. always greeted with a smile, can i help you , and excellent service. The door is even opened for you. Never served with attitude. I know that everyone has their personal choice.. and i am not bragging about crappy service.. i personally receive excellent service both here.. and abroad. As long as we spend money on a continous service, we make somene rich. Just wondering why you still seem agitated with digicel if you so happy with cellone. have a great day
give you more money than u already take me for as an existing/post paid customer…no thanks
meanwhile I can do $20 top up n could win a car…smh
How about giving back to post-paid customers that have stuck with Digicel for the long haul??…despite the dropped calls and horrible service in low lying area. Cell one phones have much better reception in these areas I’ve noticed.
Mr. Caines, seriously…something SHOULD be done for your post paid customers…especially when 90% of your customers are postpaid.
I agree; I have been a digicel customer for years! There are never any promotions for us post paid customers. I guess digicel doesn’t need post paid customers.
Thanks for the feedback but we respectfully disagree. We are proud to offer postpaid customers phone sales all throughout the year where new and existing customers get the same opportunity to purchase devices at subsidized prices and to get added value gifts.
We understand that you want to participate in this exciting promotion and would like to again point out that existing postpaid customers actually can. When our Christmas phone sale is announced yet another opportunity to qualify for prizes will be available.
We appreciate and value our existing customers very much!
We can participate in these draws if we want to open a new account or want to sign up for internet service? Gee thanks!
Thanks for your response. I don’t need a new phone, got one last year on your sale, or anything else. I have to agree that we the postpaid customers keep the business running. I think being included in all these exciting promotions, cars, trip, shopping sprees needs to be analyzed.
But what if I already have a phone that is locked into a contract? The fine print on those sale prices indicate that the price is attached to a two year contract. If your contract isn’t expired you do not benefit.
That just means us existing customers have to pay even more money when others don’t. Your competition should offer the same deals and all your loyal existing customers should up and leave. You all never do any specials or prizes for them. Just greedy.
This is all well and good that you have these promotions, but in all fairness, if one is aready on a contract the usual stipulation that Digicel puts into place do not apply. I have been with this ntwork since they were TELECOM. I pay my bill on time EVERY month and not even a thank you for your continued support.
I must say unlike others I do not have many issues with the service (fortunate I guess) but come on give us some kind of consolation. And yes, Black Friday and Christmas Sales are coming but if I’m on contract, those sales are POINTLESS!!!!!
I’m NOT at all impressed…
The prices this company charges a free car is nothing to them!
The terrible and lousy service they give needs to be addressed before anything else.
..on the steps of City Hall? – oh puleese. Shameless company. Your various advertising campains is the single reason I will not bring my personal or business services to you.
I’m a postpaid customer and already have home internet as well. I guess I don’t get jack. Good one Digicel. Should I cancel my existing services and sign up again so I can be entered into the draw???
How about you give an entry for each month our bills were paid on time?? You’re not creating any goodwill with your existing postpaid customers…
I’m with you on this one, XanthanGum. I don’t want a new phone yet, nor do I need internet as I already have it at home. So, we who pay our bills on time all the time cannot get into this at all.. Thanks Digicel again for all your support.
I am a corporate client…relatively small to medium sized business…where 8 of my 10 staff are on a phone plan that I provide, on Digicel purchased handsets. My monthly bill amounts to more than $1000 data and voice. I’m not HSBC but I am a good customer I would think…
Yet as said above, because I pay the bills on a post paid basis, and am not subject to the rates available on a prepaid basis, I am not as desirable…This promotion was not very well thought out…Digicel marketing needs to understand that 90% of the monthly revenue is driven NOT by the people who flock in your stores on a daily basis, or will be camped out on your shop on Black Friday. It is those, the corporates to small business, to post paid individuals who pay online, or via direct debit….but we are not the ones rewarded with “prizes”. Not a good vibe.
@ A Clue, you hit the nail on the head – the only thing corporate clients get is an invite (wine and cheese) to the next new venture so they can drum up more business.
Digicel- I completely agree that this promotion is unfair and appears to be a rather ill-thought-out desperate grab at new customers. My family are all on postpaid contracts, we already have digicel internet, we don’t need new handsets, ours are locked to your network. To think a new customer can buy a throwaway sim and $20 credit and have a chance at this competition is ridiculous. The hundreds of dollars we pay ON TIME every month is what keeps your revenue up, yet we are getting the short end of the stick.
What I would like to see is a competition like this for existing customers ONLY. My families contracts all end in Jan 2014, and I think we will be discussing long and hard whether YOUR customer loyalty compares to OUR provider loyalty.
Look forward to your response.
Only in Bermuda (and the islands to our South) would a corporate entity (like Digicel) post on blogs saying they “respectfully disagree” with THEIR CUSTOMERS!
That speaks volumes to their understanding of customer relations (Don’t piss off your customers!). Even when the customer isn’t right they should be treated as if they are right (in this case they ARE right). The problem in little ole Bermuda is lack of significant choice. It suppresses proper customer service.
The same goes for the automatic 17 percent gratuities added to the restaurant bill for MY convenience! What a ridiculous idea. I just endured a tedious lack of service this weekend from a Somerset eating establishment and paid 17 percent for the pain and suffering! But that is another story for another time.
Really, donwderoad? Only Bermuda and the Caribbean have a customer service problem. No issues in the US or Europe hey? I’m gonna go ahead a call nonsense on that one.
Digicel, thank-you for the promotion, I am excited for the chance to with the Kia Soul. I have read the comments from the haters. Keep pushing. I find value in your service. I have your Bundle (cell, longdistance and ISP) Huge savings…. my kids are on the pre-paid $3.50 prepaid data and voice service. I also attended your tips and tricks session and learned how to use my new s3. $50k in prizes. that is awesome.. I am feeling lucky, I need a new car… thanks Digicel…. You have been there for my family. I just wanna say THANKS
That sounds so fake. Do you work at Digicel???
Must be an old person lmao…
LOL! You think anyone really believes that? Believes you? So transparent. That is such a typical employee review masquerading as a customer. Name drops of the services they offer and all. Try harder next time.
Keep pushing? Did Burt get interviewed again?
Thanks Digicel, great offer that car is mine haters!
I am paying over $200 a month for 2 cel/ phones. Almost $2500 a year. No entry into contest. You would think that for that money you would at least be offered an upgrade on a new phone for a seriously discounted price, or even free.
@thanks-digicel,
How are you going to win this competition? You have to buy a new handset, no? But you state you have a new s3?
I am confused, unless you are merely a digicel employee tasked to write ONE positive comment to offset the negative (I know what I suspect)
@thanks-digicel will have a chance to win based on her kids DAILY PLAN according to the article…..
It’s an awesome way of giving back…to threaten with changing carriers because you are not included in the drawing is a bit juvenile….This is what has been offered so far….. you all wouldn’t even give Digicel a chance to announce if they are going to have something for post paid customers…How about when phone offerings are made for POST PAID customers only and pre-paid have to pay full price……at least with pre-paid customers they are GUARANTEED their money as there are many post paid customers I am sure that have outstanding bills (PLEASE NOTE I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT YOU IF YOU ARE NOT GUILTY OF THIS)…….JMO
Denis O’Brien, founder/owner of Digicel is such a nice man for doing this – and Thank You to the former PLP Government for giving Digicel a licence to operate in Bermuda.

I have to agree with the majority. There is absolutely no incentive for the post paid customers to 1. ) stay with Digicel 2.) pay on time. I have been with Digicel since the company opened, and have been very loyal to them by buying my handsets and paying my bills on time. I also signed up for the home internet this summer! So because I signed up a few months earlier than this promotion I’m out of luck?? I don’t need a new phone as mine works perfectly and I’m a single woman who doesn’t need to buy for anyone else under my name.
I have to honestly say this is really disheartening…I was looking fwd to being apart of this, but just like that my hopes were crushed…thanks Digicel…if it wasn’t for so many people having my current cell number and the hassle of giving everyone the new number I would have changed a long time ago, solely based off of the fact that post- paid customers mean NOTHING to Digicel!
just make the switch
I totally agree with the majority of the comments here.
Digicel has completely disrespected their loyal and long-standing customers. They are absolutely justified being peeved about the treatment they have received from this latest (cheap-tricks) promotion.
Once you (Digicel) have all of your new customers on-board, you better make sure that you provide them with exceptional customer service. If not, they will abandon you in a heartbeat once the ephemeral hype of winning a prize has long faded.
The Digi Playmates with the skimpy red dresses and reindeer ears are nice.
Kind of tacky at Christmas don’t you think
Do any of these telecom companies provide anything to their existing customers? I get that the market is contracting. So the only growth is to take from each other. But how about taking care of your existing customers so well that their praise and affection draw the attention of new customers. Just a thought.
But as an Internet customer of Digicel’s, I will happily accept this free Netflix service. So thanks for that, but I’d really like the car. I guess I’ll just top up random strangers’ prepaid phones.
I’m a Digicel billed customer. Yeah, it would be nice to win a car… but…
If I’ve been shopping for years at a clothing store and then they have a sale on a particular item and I don’t want to buy that item, would I get all upset and blast that clothing store for not appreciating me? Demand that all the clothes I want to buy be put on sale too??
If there’s a giveaway at a furniture store for people who buy a living room set and I already bought my living room set from there last year, should I insist that I be entered into the giveaway anyway??
On another note, Christmas is supposed to be about sharing and giving, not entitlement and whining. Stop thinking about what you think you should get and start getting into the spirit of giving to others.
Good luck to everyone who is eligible.
Digicel does not pay attention to their customers at all!! I have been a customer for years and have requested on many occasions for them to have a 24 hour access drop box installed , similar to Belco, Telco, so we the customer who do not pay on line, can pay our bill at anytime. They have a drop box on Court street only accessed during business hours. I used it once and my phone was turned off because not one employee checked the box and my payment was not discovered for two weeks. Go Figure. If they spent less time on these advertising deals and paid more attention to their regular customers we would all be better off. PAY ATTENTION DIGICEL…………..
Digicel needs to fix your dam pre paid machines.. i hate those f****** things
Digicel! What happened to the phones you promoted at the Teacher’s Conference at CedarBridge at discounted prices? Waiting to hear from you. Many teachers signed up for them. Patiently waiting. The manager, Ms. Tammy Gibbons said we would hear from them that week. I called and was told that they don’t have the phones in stock.SMH
