Pair Charged With Grocery Store Cheque Fraud

A man and woman appeared in Magistrates Court today [Nov 25] charged with using stolen cheques to obtain groceries.

Wendy Burrows, 47, and David Brooks, 57, both pleaded not guilty to a string of offences involving receiving stolen cheques, using the cheques to defraud Marketplace’s Shopping Centre of goods, and obtaining goods by deception.

They were both alleged to have received cheques that they knew or believed to be stolen, presenting the cheques to the Shopping Centre, and obtaining goods.

Senior Magistrate Archie Warner set their trial for 11th February 2014 and both Burrows and Brooks were granted $2,000 bail.

    Hope the courts didn’t take a cheque from them . If some people used half their energy into working hard and honestly s they doing trying to allegedly steal , cheat and lie, they would be very successful.

    Another two names to put on my list of people not to trust and employ .

    THINGS IN BERMUDA ARE REALLY GETTING HARD IN BERMUDA.. SOME PEOPLE HAVE NO OTHER OPTION SOMETIMES. THE SAD THING IS THE STORES, UTILITIES,TAXES ETC GET HIGHER AND THE WAGES DECREASE. JUST IMAGINE WHAT THE FURLOW DAY DID TO ALOT OF GOVT. WORKERS. STRUGGLING AS IT IS TO TAKE YET ANOTHER DEDUCTION IN PAY.. FOR SOME OF US EVERY PENNY COUNTS.
