Marsh And Guy Donate To Three Local Charities

December 23, 2013

Marsh and Guy Carpenter & Company made donations to The Reading Clinic, WindReach, and Big Brothers Big Sisters, saying they are delighted to help support the community.

“We chose these specific charities because they align with our philanthropic focus this year on helping and developing the youth of Bermuda,” said David Ezekiel, Bermuda Chairman of Marsh & McLennan Companies and Chairman of Marsh’s Bermuda Charity Committee. “Each of these organisations makes a big difference in the community and we are delighted to provide our support.”

The Reading Clinic promotes literacy and numeracy in Bermuda by providing assessments, tutoring and related interventions for children with dyslexia and learning difficulties. Through family and school consultations, referrals and advocacy, and by professional development, the charity fosters the use of research-based practices to empower individuals who learn differently.

With a mission to enrich the quality of life for people with special needs, WindReach is a fully-accessible four-acre facility offering programmes and activities providing therapeutic, educational and recreational opportunities. WindReach helps persons with disabilities to develop the skills they need to better integrate into the broader community and lead a more fulfilling life.

Big Brothers Big Sisters Bermuda is a mentoring programme dedicated to helping children and youth, primarily from single parent homes, realise their potential by facilitating the development of long-term one-to-one relationships.

“On behalf of all three charities, I would like to thank Marsh and Guy Carpenter for their generous donations,” said Patrina O’Connor-Paynter, Fund Development/Marketing Communications Director, Big Brothers Big Sisters Bermuda. “We appreciate their investment in the community and in helping young people in Bermuda to reach their full potential.”

Dr. Julie Dunstan, Executive Director of The Reading Clinic, added, “This is the time of year when we often think of children and when many families are seeking help for their children. Gifts such as these are truly inspirational and help charities to continue to meet the increasing needs in our community. We wish everyone at Marsh and Guy Carpenter all the joys of the season and would like to express our most heartfelt gratitude for their generosity!”

In addition to the donations, Marsh and Guy Carpenter sponsored a number of other corporate citizenship programmes in Bermuda in 2013, including support for the Bermuda Scout Association and Friends of Hospice as well as a boat donation to a youth sailing community outreach programme. In addition, 80 Bermuda-based colleagues of Marsh and Guy Carpenter volunteered for a day to make various improvements at The Sunshine League’s property.
