Slideshow: Skateboarding At #1 Car Park
Young skateboarders made their way to Hamilton today [Dec 29] to take advantage of the ramps and rails that Darren Booth of the Booth store had set up in the #1 car park on Front Street.
Mr Booth most recently set up the equipment on Boxing Day for the enjoyment of those that attended. In June of this year, Skate Bermuda said they were launching a fundraising drive to bring Bermudian youth a permanent concrete BMX & Skatepark, complete with rails, stairs, pyramids, ramps and a bowl.
Support the Booth and the skate park drive, we have a lot of talented youths who need a spot like this that’s permanent.
The sport has come a long way from putting some metal rollerskate wheels onto a piece of wood that you have cut & shaped yourself, but come on guys you all know better, especially with the rough & cracked surface that you ride on, where are the kneepads, the elbow pads & the helmet?
It is a high risk sport & one good meeting of skull with concrete could knock you back to nursery school for life.
Sure would be nice to have a purpose built skate park for skateboarders, inline skaters & bikes. Even small towns have them elsewhere. They don’t need much room & are usually found in the corner of an existing park.
