UK Man Cleared Of Sexual Assault In Australia
The UK’s Mirror is reporting that Gregory Cox, the 32-year-old millionaire boss of the Quintessential online shopping and finance group, has been cleared of charges that he sexually assaulted a 21-year-old Bermudian woman on an Australian beach last year.
According to the report, “Gregory Cox, 32, faced two charges of having sex without consent with a woman he met in a bar. Cox…was on holiday when he met the 21-year-old woman, who is from Bermuda, in 2012.
“She drank wine and Jagerbombs before leaving the bar with him. They had sex on the beach, but Cox, of Battersea, South London, insisted it was consensual.
“During the trial in Sydney, the woman claimed she had been crying and terrified as he forced her to perform a sex act, telling her, “there’s nothing you can do”.
“Cox told his friends the next day the sex was consensual, but that afterwards the woman had “freaked out,” throwing her handbag in the air and running off. He later handed the handbag in to Kings Cross police station in Sydney.
“Cox, who lists Peaches Geldof amongst his Facebook friends, was arrested four days later on Australia Day when he returned to the Bucket List bar was was recognised by staff who had been supplied with his description by police.”
In a statement issued after the verdict was announced, Cox said: “This has been a very difficult and deeply upsetting time for my friends and family and we are just glad that it is now at an end.
“The jury returned very quickly with a unanimous verdict which was pleasing, and to them we are extremely thankful. Finally, justice has prevailed and I’m now looking forward to a Christmas back in the UK with my family.”
