Antonio Myers Sentence Under Consideration

January 14, 2014

antonio myersAntonio Myers appeared in the Supreme Court yesterday [Jan 13] as his sentence — for the murder of Kumi Harford — is under consideration.

In 2011, Myers was originally sentenced to life in prison, with the Judge directing he must serve minimum of 38 years before he can be considered for parole.

Antonio Myers was arrested in 2010 in connection with the murder, and convicted in March 2011.

30-year-old Kumi Harford was killed at around 5am on St. Monica’s Road on December 5th, 2009, when a hail of bullets struck his car as he was driving home.

During the trial, an expert testified that evidence determined that two shooters were involved and that two guns were involved; one a 9mm pistol and the other was a 40 calibre weapon.

Following Myers conviction in 2011, the Police said the “case remains open as detectives from the Serious Crime Unit continue to look for other offenders in the case.”

The Police said anyone with information relating to the murder of Mr. Harford is urged to contact the Serious Crime Unit on 247-1340 or the confidential and independent Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477.

Myers is not the only convicted killer scheduled to appear this week, with the Court list also showing David Cox and Kevin Warner as being up for sentencing, and Derek Spaulding being up for mention.

Cox was convicted of killing Troy “Yankee” Rawlins, Warner was convicted of killing Dekimo “Purple” Martin, while Spaulding was convicted of killing Shaki Crockwell.

Two other convicted murderers have recently had their sentences reduced. Ze Selassie was convicted of the murder of 14-year-old Rhiana Moore, while Jermaine Pearman was convicted of killing 23-year-old Shakeya DeRoza.

Selassie was initially sentenced to 35 years, and in 2011 the Bermuda Court of Appeal reduced that to 28 years. Jermaine Pearman was originally sentenced to 25 years, and the Court of Appeal reduced that to 21 years.

However in October 2013, both men had their sentences reduced further by the UK Privy Council in London, with Selassie’s sentence cut to 25 years before he is eligible for parole, while Pearman will be eligible after serving 15 years.

Will never understand these reduced sentences for taking another person’s life…

    • Malachi says:

…was just thinking the same thing. As far as I’m concerned, one can never get too much time for premeditated murder.

    • Paul says:

Look who are the judges are !!!!

  2. San George says:

Hang the killers – that is the only way to stop the appeals and resentencing. There is no fear.

    • WhistleBlower says:

Why eve waste good TAX dollars to try them Just change the law to Life in Prision until we think of something else!!!!!!!

  3. bluebird says:

We would not be “WASTEING” all these TAX-PAYERS dollars on these appeals if we had HUNG THEM like they do in “TRINADAD”.
And government wants you to pay your small amount of Taxes by the 15th January when they are borrowing on average $300Million per year to support these CRIMINALS and all the Judges and Lawyers.
And how is all them new hotels coming,ha ha ha ha!We have plenty of space in town and lots of emplty condos apartments and houses and no jobs the economy still going down.Well done PLP.

  4. BUBBLES says:

PISSED! Consideration!? How can we have faith in a system that was never meant to protect us! They don’t give a s*** let the murderers out so they can hunt down more bodies! WHAT A SHAME!

  5. BUBBLES says:

The case remains open. Why don’t you set an example as a higher power and charge him with double murder. PROBLEM SOLVED. No wasted tax payers dollars on investigations carried out by overpaid uninterested officers who could be damned if they find another killer or not!

I am sick and tired of this s***!

An entire crew has been wiped out and only one conviction which is now under CONSIDERATION…BERMUDA HAS GOT TO DO BETTER…mothers LEFT childless children LEFT fatherless and NO CONVICTIONS!I am VEXED

  6. me says:

LOVE YOU KEEP YOUR HEAD UPPP!!

  7. Hahaha says:

They might as well let them all go free now, they keep allowing their sentence’s to be reduced like WTH, can’t take the “Justice” system serious in bermuda. Another reason why I don’t blame people for not coming forward as witnesses, the culprit will be out in no time and probably want revenge.

  8. Bermuda Boy says:

New Tourism Slogan. Come to Bermuda, commit a crime (any crime) and get away with it!! Just for the record, I don’t have and never will have any faith in the legal system on this rock. You killed someone, take 38 years, no sorry take 15 years, sorry again take 5 years, really sorry this time take 1 year, no wait… you rest and I’ll do your time for you.

  9. Nuffin but da Truth says:

    HANG ALL THESE wannabee gangbangers

  10. 5 Star says:

only thing needed is to INCREASE the sentence to “ROT IN JAIL MURDERER” NEVER EVER TO SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY. Take all their assets to defray cost of prison. When that runs out take them fishing to Argus on the one way express. Our justice system is in very sorry state. Perhaps the AG needs to REVIEW this.

  11. sage says:

Send the bill for all these expensive appeals to the Judges who overstepped the law, seeing as there will be no other repercussions for them. Then change the law.

  12. ganja mon says:

How the hell can a UK Privy Counsel be allowed to tell us how long we can imprison our murderers?? There are already a handful of murderers walking around freely on the streets, now you want people like Ze Sallasie out of prison in roughly 8 years??

    Bermuda is NUTS !!

  13. Mike Hind says:

Awesome. The cure to murder is… more murder.

    That makes sense.

  14. Miguelito says:

Please keep murderers behind bars if we can’t just put ‘em in de ground.

  15. NEEDS TO BE SAID says:

EVERYONE HAS SOMETHING TO SAY UNTIL A SITUATION OCCURS WHERE IT HITS CLOSE TO HOME. THE SITUATION WITH GANG VIOLENCE IS HORRIBLE AND RIDICULOUS IN BERMUDA. THE JUSTICE SYSTEM AND THE WAY THE BERMUDA POLICE CONDUCT INVESTIGATIONS AND GATHER EVIDENCE IS WORSE! ONE WOULD HAVE TO SIT IN A COURT ROOM AND HEAR ALL OF THE DETAILS AND EVIDENCE OF A CASE BEFORE THEY CAST JUDGEMENT. THIS COULD VERY WELL BE A SON, COUSIN, BROTHER, NEPHEW OF YOURS. THE AMOUNT OF MOTHERS THAT HAVE LOST THEIR SONS TO GANG VIOLENCE IS HEARTBREAKING. WHAT ABOUT THE AMOUNT OF MOTHERS WHO HAVE SONS SERVING TIME FOR CRIMES THEY DID NOT COMMIT. BERMUDIANS JUST TALK. WHAT DO YOU DO ABOUT A CHILD BORN AND RAISED IN AN AREA LABELLED AS GANG TERRITORY? 5 YEARS OLD, PLAYING OUTSIDE EVERYDAY RIDING AROUND ON HIS PUSHBIKE STRAIGHT THROUGH TO HIS TEENAGE YEARS? BY THE TIME HE IS 17, ACCORDING TO POLICE, HE IS A GANG MEMBER. AN INCIDENT HAPPENS IN HIS AREA AND HES AN AUTOMATIC SUSPECT (BULL****). EVERYONE IS ENTITLED TO THEIR OWN OPINIONS, BUT I HAVE HEARD PARTICULARS OF THIS CASE AND IT IS NO WAY HE SHOULD BE SERVING TIME FOR MURDER. CLOTHES FOUND IN A FIRE WITH MORE THAN ONE PERSON’S DNA ON IT IN AN AREA THAT HE LIVED IN AND STATEMENTS FROM TWO HOMELESS SEEKING REWARD MONEY JUST ISN’T ENOUGH.

  16. NEEDS TO BE SAID says:

    *CRACKHEADS

  17. Unbelievable says:

The UK privy Counsel did this we cant blame bermuda court systems when we are under another countrys laws. And if you know anything about the UK you would know that they hardly give rapist or murderors a hard sentence if at all. smh vote for independence anyone?!
