Police Confirm Man’s Body Found In Harbour
[Updated: Police identify the man as Ian McGavern]
The body of a 66 year old man was pulled from Hamilton Harbour early this morning [Jan 21], the police have confirmed.
Police Media Manager Dwayne Caines said, “At approximately 4:42am this morning, first responders attended the area of the Flag Pole located on Front Street in the City of Hamilton to a report of a body of a male in Hamilton Harbour.
“On arrival, officers noticed the unresponsive body in the Harbour. The 66 year old Southampton man was pulled out of the water and taken to KEMH where he was dead pronounced dead at 5.20am.
“No further information will be given until the next of kin has been notified,” Mr Caines concluded.
Update 3.33pm: The police have identified the man as 66 year old Ian McGavern, and said that it appears that he fell from the dock. Foul play is not suspected, however an autopsy is anticipated.

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 66 year old Ian McGavern.
It appears that Mr. McGavern fell from the dock near the ‘Flag Pole’ along Front Street in the City of Hamilton. A member of the public initially reported the incident.
Around 4:45am Mr. McGavern’s lifeless body was pulled from the waters of Hamilton harbour by first responders who attempted to revive him.
Despite their efforts, he was subsequently pronounced dead at 5:20am Tuesday by an on call doctor at the hospital.
Inquiries into the circumstances surrounding Mr. McGavern’s death are ongoing and persons who may have information regarding his whereabouts in the hours prior to his passing should contact Sergeant Renay Rock on 247-1383.
At this time foul play is not suspected, however an autopsy is anticipated.
The Bermuda Police Service extends condolences to the family and friends of Mr. McGavern.
