Riley To Lecture: “Is Gaming The Way Forward?”
Cordell Riley will deliver a public lecture entitled “Trouble in Paradise, is gaming the way forward?” from 6-8pm this coming Thursday [Jan 9] at the Leopard’s Club.
The lecture is based on Mr Riley’s recently published article in the International Journal for Responsible Tourism on the possible challenges the island faces as a result of introducing casino gambling.
From the article abstract: “The jewel in the Atlantic has faced many challenges in getting its tourism ‘groove back.’ However, islanders are split as to whether or not the introduction of gaming constitutes responsible tourism and the way back to buoyancy.”

Thank you. I appreciate having lots of notice about this public meeting.
Does anyone know what is planned?
For example will there be a single casino in Bermuda or will several hotels qualify for a casino licence?
Wouldn’t that depend on investors !As long as the regulated requirements are met then a casion licence would be issued. I would imagine Hotels of a certain size or number of beds to be able to establish a casino. Licenses will not be handed out free with a bag of donuts. There will be qualification rules.
With the OBA permitting the sale of the whiteman’s firewater 7 days weekly; legalization of gay marriages and adoption of innocent children soon coming; and the installation of gambling dens, Bermuda is fast approaching the gates of Sodom and Gomorrah–where death and destruction awaits.
The twisted mind of the OBA works like this: That which is right is WRONG and that which is wrong is RIGHT.
WOW, I can’t believe a human being could write such vile hatred. Go seek help immediately.
Question: why does ANYONE, other than you, have to follow the rules of your religion?
Do you have any opinion about Marc Bean’s ‘gambling den’ or are you ok when black people do these things?
Wheere did you get the idea there is any plan for legalization of gay marriages? You haven’t been listening to Marc Bean and Donal Smith have you?
What studies have been carried out which indicates that “gaming” is the best way for Bermuda to revive its sagging tourism industry?
The solution seems short sighted and expensively short termed. We need to look and see which NA jurisdictions have rejected having a casino and why.
