Canadian Youth Rugby Team To Tour Bermuda
The Bermuda Rugby Union is hosting Canadian Invitational youth rugby tour party from Thursday 13th March to Thursday 20th March. This will be the second year that Rugby Canada has come to Bermuda.
The brain child of BRFU Chairman Keith Hodgkins and Rugby Canada’s Rick Bourne- the youth tournament is growing in stature on the local rugby calendar mainly due to the sponsorship from Langara Fishing Lodge in Canada and the kind support of Onsite Engineering Ltd locally.
The Canadian tour party, consisting of 85 players, coaches and parents, is arriving from British Columbia and Newfoundland on Thursday. They are coming down to participate in a week long rugby tournament. There will be three different age groups U13,U14 and U15 With games against the Bermuda national team for those ages groups.
The schedule of events are as follows:
4pm Friday 14th March Warwick Academy coaching session meet and greet tourists.
Saturday 15th March – NSC–North Field
10:00am to 12:00pm – Sevens tournament
- U15 age groups – Rugby Canada has two 7′s team in this age group. Bermuda will field 2 teams in this age group.
- U14 age groups – Rugby Canada has two 7′s team in this age group. Bermuda will field 2 teams in this age group.
- U13 Age Group – Rugby Canada has one 7′s teams in this age group. Bermuda will fielding 3 teams in this age group
Games will be played on half pitch and consist of 7 min halves.
Followed by:
- 12:30pm – U13 Bermuda vs Canada in a 12 a side match
- 1:10pm – U14 Bermuda vs Canada in a 15 a side match
- 5:00pm – U15 Bermuda vs Canada in a 15 a side match
Sunday 16th March- Horseshoe Bay
2:30pm onwards - Beach rugby at Horseshoe bay.
A spokesperson said, “We are inviting the Bermuda mini rugby girls and boys any of the age groups. Just a fun rugby day at the beach with a Beach rugby tournament, volley ball, beach tennis. Finished off with Barbecue in the late afternoon.”
Monday 17th March at Saltus School
4:00pm – U13/U14 Canada versus a Bermuda Select side at Saltus School
Tuesday 18th at Warwick Academy
2:30pm – U13/U14 Canada versus a Bermuda Select side at Warwick Academy
