Cruise Job Orientation Sessions Start Tomorrow

March 25, 2014

As the Ministry of Home Affairs and Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines [RCCL], gear up to host this week’s employment information session for those looking for a career on board a cruise ship, one young Bermudian has been singled out for finding quick success on board an NCL ship.

Last year, the Ministry partnered with Norwegian Cruise Lines [NCL] to introduce an employment opportunity which afforded Bermudians a chance to work on a cruise ship, and as a result of the recruitment drive last year, seven Bermudians secured jobs on board NCL ships.

One of those seven individuals finding great success onboard the Norwegian Gem is Denika Outerbridge. In fact Ms. Outerbridge has impressed the NCL management so much, that she received a promotion just weeks into her employment on board the Gem.

In October 2013, she started her employment as a restaurant steward and just one month later she moved up the ranks to become an Assistant Waiter.

Minister of Home Affairs Michael Fahy hailed Ms. Outerbridge’s success and saying, “We are very proud of Denika’s achievement. Denika’s engaging personality and strong work ethic enabled her to advance up the NCL ranks in a very short span of time, and this will undoubtedly put her in line for future opportunities. She has made a lasting impression on both the NCL guests and management and we couldn’t be happier about her professional development.”

While working on the Norwegian Gem, Ms. Outerbridge has had the opportunity to serve guests from around the world, and she has received “Vacation Hero” messages from guests recognizing her for her exceptional service.

Of her success, Ms. Outerbridge said, “I am meeting new people from all over the world and building friendships that will last forever. My motto is, if the guests are happy, I’m happy.”

Tomorrow [Mar 26] and Thursday, the Ministry and RCCL kicks off a series of employment information sessions at the Pier Six Terminal [lower level] from 10.00 a.m. – 4.00 p.m.

Human Resource representatives will present details about the company and the career opportunities at 10.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. on both days.

Career opportunities include Guest Relations, Human Resources, Food & Beverage and Facilities & Entertainment and range from entry-level to management positions.

    @lick my chicken.
We are not competing with Bermudians “NOW”
We have to compete with the “REST OF THE WORLD”
Countries from around the world have been supporting this new system
since the “UNIONS” killed the previous cruse industry.
UNION cruse ships could not make any money there for went out of Business.

  3. Not All true says:

She isnt the only one left, there is definitley another young man still on board. Not sure if the rest are gone but there is one more for sure. You all keep up the good work ! Your families and the Island should be proud of you.

  4. PANGAEA says:

    SEA SICKNESS.

If some of you are dreading to apply for employment on a cruise ship because of potential seasickness your worries are over.

All you need do when you are feeling bad or even prior to that,
eat some very burnt toast (not cremated) just burnt.

The carbon in the toast cut into fingers with a little butter will settle the tummy instantly.

Of course prevention is better than cure, don’t eat greasy foods for breakfast, keep of the Bacon.

You might like to book a voyage on a cruise ship to try out the experience.
