Bermuda Open Golf Championships Kicks Off
The first day of the 2014 Bermuda Open Championships was completed today [Mar 24] under rather challenging conditions.
The 8.30am start was delayed for 30 minutes due to a passing thunderstorm and the first few groups encountered some brief showers. The chief adversary however was the wind which was gusting up to 30 knots at times throughout the day.
Despite the conditions the professional players managed to find their way around Port Royal Golf Course without throwing away too many shots. At the end of the first day, Michael Sims, Glenn Joyner and Gordon Brand Jr are tied with a 4 over par score of 75, with Justin Regier just one shot back at 76.
In the Amateur Division, Jarryd Dillas is leading the field with score of 80 followed closely by Mark Phillips who shot 81 and Shannon Trott with an 82. The trio have pulled away from the rest of the field with the next best score being 89 by Josh Cabrera.
In the First Flight the scores ranged from 88 – 96 so the field is fairly tightly packed. Andrew Trott had the low round of the flight with an 88.
The conditions for round 2 look quite reasonable but with another low approaching the conditions could become very challenging for Wednesday so anything could happen as the tournament progresses.
