Second Custodial Technician Training Program

March 12, 2014

Next week, the Department of Workforce Development will conduct its second Custodial Technician Training programme, this time for custodial staff working within the Ministry of Education.

Earlier last month the Ministry of Home Affairs announced the introduction of a two-week Custodial Technician Certification training programme as part of Government’s ongoing efforts towards helping unemployed Bermudians.

The course was overseen by the Department of Workforce Development who engaged the Cleaning Management Institute – a New York based organization – to facilitate the training.

Last month, 11 individuals were successful in passing the certification programme with two gaining full time employment and three securing part-time employment in the field.

This latest training session takes place from March 17 to March 24 and has 20 individuals enrolled in the programme as part of their professional development. The successful participants will obtain the Front Line Certification and Cleaning Management Institute Badge, recognized throughout North America.

Similar to last month’s session, Cleaning Management Institute will conduct the training.

The first week of the course involves soft skills training such as understanding the importance of time management, having a strong work ethic understanding and communicating effectively with customers.

The second week of the course will focus on industry standards regarding cleaning, including learning and understanding the basic types of cleaning agents and identifying physical actions of cleaning agents to name a few.

Minister of Home Affairs, Michael Fahy said, “Last month, we announced the introduction of a two-week Custodial Technician Certification training programme as part of our ongoing efforts towards getting Bermudians back to work. And since then we have seen some success with that programme.

“The feedback we have received has been very positive, so much so, that the Ministry of Education has engaged us to facilitate this training session for their custodial staff as part of their professional development, so that they can achieve certification in the field.”

Minister Fahy concluded, “The Ministry of Home Affairs remains committed to doing its part to helping Bermudians gain their footing in what is still considered a difficult job market.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank our local industry partners for their support in assisting us with this training endeavor and for supporting our steps to have more qualified Bermudians in this field.”
