MP Brown Commends Bermuda Debate Team
Shadow Minister of Education Walton Brown has offered his congratulations to the contingent of students who participated in the 2014 Panamerican School Debate, adding that the island’s residents are also thankful that they escaped the earthquake that affected Mexico City during the competition unscathed.
The tournament took place last week, with four students traveling to Mexico City in order to compete against debate teams from Canada, the United States, and several Latin American countries.
Bermuda’s Panamerican debate team:
Mr. Brown said, “The Progressive Labour Party would like to commend the Bermuda Debate Team that competed admirably at the 2014 Panamerican School Debate Tournament, held last week in Mexico City, Mexico.
“The participants, Ryan Robinson-Perinchief, Glenn Simmons, Asha Symons, and Jashonae Smith, under the guidance of Mr. Gladstone Thompson, represented Bermuda very well, scoring two victories, and earning commendations for their speaking style and their Bermuda shorts.
“We are also thankful that the team was safe from any harm during the Mexico Earthquake that struck while they were preparing for competition.”
