May 1, 2014

Bermuda Hockey Federation LogoThe Bermuda Hockey Federation [BHF] saw several “knock out” matches take place on Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27, paving the way for two finals matches to take place on May 4, 2014.

Budgies B: 4 – Wildcats B: 0

The Budgies’ scored a field goal in the 28th minute by Jasmine Patterson, a penalty corner in the 31st minute by Keishea Robinson, a field goal in the 37th minute by Erica Parsons, and a field goal in the 45th minute by Akilah Beckles, giving them a 4-0 victory over the Wildcats.

Bluebirds B: 0 – Budgies B: 4

A highly spirited Bluebirds team showed up with 10 players knowing that a win in this semi-final match would advance them to the finals. This game was to be a tight affair, with plenty of talent on both sides.

The Budgies fielded an extremely solid and full side who would score a field goal by Kassia White in the 2nd minute from the top of the circle. Coach Helen and captain Liz continued to encourage the Bluebirds not to lose focus and had to strategize in order to compensate for being short.

There were times it seemed the whole of the Budgies team were running at the Bluebirds. Keishae Robinson would go on to score field goals in the 10th and 29th minutes and the first half ended 3-0 to Budgies.

The second half commenced in much the same way that the first half ended. The Bluebirds stout defensive unit, marshaled by Vicki Johnston in goal, ensured no advantage was taken from continuous pressure by the Budgies attack as their 4th point, which was blasted from the top of the ‘D’, landed high in the goal in the 58th minute.

Only a minute later, a quick pass down the left and a cross to the top of the ‘D’ created a scramble in the circle, leaving Paula Few to slip a goal in, rejuvenating the Bluebirds as they cut the score to 4-1 to the Budgies.

The short-handed Bluebirds team put up a valiant effort but were only able to convert that one goal, giving the Budgies a 4-1 victory and securing their place in the finals.

Longtails B: 0 – Ravens B: 5

The Ravens notched a field goal in the 3rd minute by Jess McClure, two more field goals in the 27th and 38th minutes by Megan Troake, a penalty corner in the 48th minute by Ana Abend, and a field goal in the 59th minute by Mollie O’Donnell in order to complete a commanding 5-0 victory over the Longtails.

With the knock out matches played, the BHF finals have shaped up with the following matches to take place on Sunday, May 4:

  • Ladies A – Budgies vs Ravens
  • Ladies B – Budgies vs Ravens
