CedarBridge Academy To Host Dance Concert

May 8, 2014

CedarBridge Academy is getting set to host ‘To Live is to Dance,’ a live performance of choreography that will take place at Ruth Seaton James Auditorium on May 9, 2014 from 7.00pm through 8.30pm.

A spokesperson said, “This weekend is the culmination of performing arts for CedarBridge Academy. As part of their grades, students must participate in live performances for GCSE Dance. To end it off, the dance students will host a show, titled ‘To Live is to Dance,’ on May 9, 2014 at 7.00pm at Ruth Seaton James Auditorium.

Ms. Wanda Maxwell, dance instructor for CedarBridge Academy, explained, “The students choose the title ‘To Live is to Dance’ because, to them, dancing is stress release and provides therapeutic escape into movement, allowing them to freely create an expression.”

“Many of the dances the students will perform are their own choreography, because that is one aspect of their GCSE requirements. Students had to look at a professional dance company piece and create a dance while keeping some aspect of the professional troupe’s piece. Students are allowed to use props, a motif, and their own creation.

“The CedarBridge GCSE students will perform their choreography as a solo of one to one and a half minutes, as well as performances as a duo and in a group. The pieces students have chosen include professional work by Rosas Danst Rosas, which is a modern dance, and the work of Belgium choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker.

“The students began with the same three movements motifs and developed them to create movement phrases; with the direction and facilitation of Ms. Maxwell, the students developed their choreography and structured and dances to create the original.”

Tickets for the event cost $15 for general admission and $30 for patrons. Tickets can be purchased by calling the ticket office at 704-5959 or CedarBridge Academy at 296-5665, extension 2112.
