Centre On Philanthropy Hosts Community Day
The Centre on Philanthropy’s Community Days focus on regenerating and strengthening our community by pairing teams of employee volunteers with meaningful non-profit projects. Over the last 6 years, The Centre on Philanthropy has facilitated over 100 projects engaging more than 800 volunteers from 30 unique companies in Bermuda.
Community Days enable a high volume of employees to volunteer on one day; raise awareness of the importance of employee volunteerism; and enable new companies and new employees to experience the joy of giving through volunteering.
A spokesperson said, “The Centre on Philanthropy’s Spring 2014 Community Day was held on Friday, May 2nd and we thank all of the non-profits that hosted projects and more than 40 volunteers and their companies who came together to brighten our community.
“Teams were engaged in a variety of activities and their involvement fostered incredible team spirit. The experience offers a tangible way for employees to give back to our community as teams dedicated their day to volunteer with non-profits that provide meals to vulnerable individuals, give care and support for cancer sufferers and their families, and preserve Bermuda’s cultural heritage.
“Employees from PwC dedicated their keen enthusiasm and vibrant energy to volunteer with Meals on Wheels to prepare and deliver meals for their 175 clients across the Island.”
Sheena Young, PwC Executive Assistant said, “The feedback from the staff was very encouraging – from what I have heard everyone enjoyed their tasks, enjoyed working with the staff from Meals on Wheels, felt that the work was constructive and valuable, but most encouraging to me, two of our staff had such a positive experience on Friday will be seeking similar opportunities to participate with their local church and or community group food banks/kitchen.”
Argus Group employees made a real difference in our community by helping P.A.L.S. to beautify their building with some much needed TLC to ensure their office would shine brightly inside and out.
The St. George’s Foundation joined forces with the Departments of Parks, Planning, and Conservation Services and an amazing team of employee volunteers from Argo to support the UNESCO World Heritage Site in St. George’s. Their incredible efforts to chip, hammer, scrape, brush and paint during the cannon conservation project truly made an impact toward preserving the rich heritage of the historic town.
“The Argo Team did a fantastic job on all the cannons at the World Heritage Centre, Alexandra Battery, Gates Forts, and Ordnance Island”, said Dr. Charlotte Andrews, Executive Director, The St. George’s Foundation.
A spokesperson said, “The Centre on Philanthropy’s Community Days give local charities the opportunity to submit a proposal for a volunteer project that can be completed in one day. The Centre on Philanthropy then recruits participation from companies, and projects are chosen based on interest expressed by the employees. If your company or organisation is interested to learn more about how to get involved please email jpitcher@centreonphilanthropy.org.”
