Man’s Jail Sentence Suspended For Two Years

June 30, 2014

In Magistrate’s Court today [June 30], a 30-year-old man was sentenced to two years in jail but had his sentence suspended for 24 months.

Senior Magistrate Archie Warner handed down the sentence to Peter Nentwig after hearing arguments by the Prosecution, who recommended jail, and Mr. Nentwig’s defence lawyer, who recommended a heavy fine, a probation order, and an order for restitution.

This sentence followed his earlier plea of guilty to a charge of trespass and unlawful damage to his ex-girlfriend’s door in April 2014.

In court, Mr. Nentwig had admitted to damaging his ex-girlfriend’s kitchen door as he gained entry to her house to accost her.

Before sentencing, the Senior Magistrate noted that Mr. Nentwig had a prior conviction for threatening the woman and her dog, Bentley.
