Slideshow: Newport Bermuda Vessels Dock
The yachts that took part in the 2014 Newport Bermuda Yacht Race have filled the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club in Hamilton, docking in order to enjoy island hospitality following a grueling ocean crossing.
The 2014 iteration of the race was won by George Sakellaris’ big white Richel/Pugh mini-maxi Shockwave, crossing the finish line off Bermuda’s St. David’s Lighthouse on Monday morning [June 23] in approximately two days and 15 hours.
Bella Mente, Hap Fauth’s 72-foot Judel/Vrolijk mini-maxi, followed only seven minutes later with a time of 63:11:25, bringing to a close a long head-to-head battle fought by the two vessels over the course of the 635 mile ocean journey.
Caol Ila R, Alex Schaerer’s 68 foot Mills IRC racer, crossed the line third, some three hours behind Shockwave, with a time of 66:03:52.

Wonderful coverage by Bernews. Lovely to see my fellow yachtsmen and their beautiful sailing yachts with the flags flying in Hamilton Harbour. If only we could have the Newport to Bermuda race every month, I’d be in my glory.
