Police Confirm Death: Jonathan Burch-DeCosta
[Updated] This afternoon the Bermuda Police officially identified the gentleman who died following an accident on Sunday [June 29] in Sandys parish as 20 year old Jonathan Burch-DeCosta.
A police spokesperson said, ” The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 20 year old Jonathan Burch-DeCosta.
“Mr. Burch-DeCosta was initially warded in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a roadside wooden railing around 1:40am Sunday, June 29th along Somerset Road in Sandys parish, in the vicinity of Ely’s Harbour. He subsequently succumbed to his injuries at 7:50pm on Tuesday, July 1st.
“The Bermuda Police Service extends condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Burch-DeCosta. A Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to assist his family at this difficult time.
“Inquiries are ongoing and any witnesses to this collision or persons with information regarding the whereabouts of 20 year old Jonathan Burch-DeCosta in the hours prior to 1:30am Sunday should contact the investigating officer PC Walter Jackson of the Roads Policing Unit on the main police telephone number 295-0011 or via e-mail wjackson@bps.bm.”
Mr. Burch-DeCosta’s death marks the sixth road fatality for 2014.
Update 7.18pm: Shadow Public Safety Minister Walter Roban & Shadow Community Affairs Minister Michael Weeks said, “The Progressive Labour Party offers our condolences to the family and friend of Jonathan Burch-Decosta, who has tragically lost his life due to a motorcycle accident.
“A sudden death like this is often hard to process but our thoughts are with the family. We implore all of those traveling on Bermuda’s roads to use the greatest of care and caution.”
