FEI World Equestrian Games Get Underway

Jillian Terceira, Bermuda’s lone representative at the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games, was on hand on Saturday, August 23 for the event’s opening ceremony, featuring French air force planes screaming across the Normandy sky as they released a stream of red, white, and blue smoke behind them.

The 2014 Games will feature 1,000 riders and more than 1,200 horses, with 500,000 spectators expected to take in the performances.

According to the official website of the Games, “An unprecedented 74 delegations are participating in the Games this year in Normandy.”

Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games Opening Ceremony:

“The athletes shared smiles and salutes with the spectators as both put their hearts into the emotional ceremony. The stadium was delighted to welcome the athletes to Normandy.”

About Ms. Terceira, the Bermuda Equestrian Federation says, “Jill is the daughter of Penny Terceira and the late Maurice Terceira, a past president of the Bermuda Equestrian Federation.”

“She first started riding at the age of 8 with Linda Sousa at ‘Embargo’, Southampton, Bermuda. Jill represented Bermuda at the North American Young Riders Championships in Show Jumping in 1992.”

Ms. Terceira will begin competing in the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games on September 2, astride her horse Tamerino.
