Canopius Bermuda Hosts Gallery Opening

September 26, 2014

The artistic community in Bermuda now has a new venue to exhibit their works after Canopius Bermuda CEO Stephen Hartwig envisioned transforming their office walls into a gallery of local artists’ works.

Premier and Minister of National Security, Michael Dunkley participated in the Gallery Opening on Thursday [Sept 25] at Canopius Bermuda.

The company held an opening reception to showcase the collection with each piece offered for sale commission free. It is projected that three shows will be mounted annually, to maximize exposure for Bermuda’s visual artists while providing a new setting to show and sell their works.

Premier Dunkley said, “Bermuda is indeed very fortunate in that we have organizations such as Canopius Bermuda that give back to this community and make a positive impact.

“You already have a proven commitment to a number of community programmes and this new innovative initiative is just another example of your active role in our community.”

Premier Dunkley’s full remarks follow below:

Good evening,

It is a great pleasure for me to be here this evening for the opening of the Canopius Bermuda art gallery.

Transforming your office walls into a Gallery of local artists’ works is a brilliant idea and wonderful opportunity for local artists to show and sell their works.

The setting here is stunning and visually quite impressive. The addition of local artwork will further enhance this already beautiful and creative office environment.

Bermuda is indeed very fortunate in that we have organizations such as Canopius Bermuda that give back to this community and make a positive impact. You already have a proven commitment to a number of community programmes and this new innovative initiative is just another example of your active role in our community.

Please know that the level of support you continue to give our community is very much appreciated.

I hope that our local artists and photographers take full advantage of this wonderful new opportunity to showcase their works, indeed all of Bermuda will benefit.

On behalf of the Government of Bermuda I congratulate you on this new venture and applaud your commitment to supporting visual artists on-island.

Thank you.

  1. David Petty says:

Well done Canopius, it is great to see such investment in the Bermuda Community, and hopefully will be a real boon to local artists.

  2. Dan DeSilva says:

It was indeed very impressive to see the premier supporting the exhibit, and Canopius as a buisness supporting local artists. With the small number of dedicated gallery spaces in Bermuda it is a great help to visual artists on the island, to have the opportunity to show and profit from their work.
It is a diverse and well curated exhibit- worth a look if you want to purchase local Bermuda Art!
Thanks to Bernews for covering the opening!
