Photos & Videos: Hubert Smith, The Play
A play celebrating the life of legendary Bermudian musician Hubert Smith — best known for being the composer and singer of Bermuda is Another World – is presently running at the Fourways Inn, where it is set to continue until October 5th.
“Hubert Smith: The Play” was spearheaded by Dale Butler, and the performers include Cleveland “Outta-Sight” Simmons, Charles Jeffers, June Caisey, Denny Richardson, Veronica “Lolly” Darrell, Jermaine Jeffers, Maxwell Assing, Gene Steede, Stan “Lord Necktie” Seymour, The Masterpiece Band, Dexter Dillas, Dennis Fox, Quinton “Tiny” Burgess, Jade Minors, Duke Joell, Marq Rodriguez Phillip and Doreen Juliete.
Speaking after the Friday evening performance, Mr. Butler said, “We had a great crowd, very supportive. The actors were absolutely outstanding, a first class band Masterpiece led by Dexter Dillis. We had first class service and great food.

Mr. Butler continued, “I think that we got the message across that Hubert Smith made an excellent contribution to Bermuda, and much more should be done to recognize him and the many musicians that we have been very fortunate to have been blessed with, who gave so much to Bermuda’s tourism industry, and to Bermudians as a whole.
“They not only followed the trends that existed in the world, but they wrote many songs on their own, and that in itself is a credit to their ability and to their talent. I’d like to just thank Bernews for being here tonight, and thank everyone who supported this event.
“We’re actually getting ready for play number 3, which will be on in March entitled, “The Second Last Supper.” We actually start casting for that on October the 5th, 6th, and 7th here at the Fourways Inn.”
Dale Butler after the show:
“I look forward to the remaining shows. We’re back on the 28th, and then October the 2nd, 3rd, and the 5th. You can purchase your tickets from Fourways, or from the Music Box. We suggest you call first, because we have had a couple of nights selling out.
“I think overall people seem to have had a wonderful night. Again, thank you, and I hope to see all of you attend Hubert Smith: The Play here at Four Ways Inn,” added Mr. Butler.
The show is set to continue this evening, and then again on Thursday October 2nd, Friday October 3rd and Sunday October 5th. Tickets are $70 in advance, and $80 at the door. Tickets can be purchased from Fourways Inn and Music Box, and for more information on the play, please visit Mr. Butler’s website.
