Ponaflex Releases Two New Songs
Ponaflex has released two singles – “Superpower” and “Underwater” - with the musician saying his goal is to “fuse soca and Caribbean genres with global pop influences, while keeping Bermuda at the center of the story.”
A spokesperson said, “As Carnival in Bermuda kicks off this week, Bermudian soca artist Ponaflex is giving the island something to vibe to with two powerful new singles: the bold, high-energy “Superpower” and the emotionally stirring “Underwater.”
“Both tracks are already gaining traction across the Caribbean and social media, offering the perfect Carnival soundtrack from an artist who proudly reps Bermuda with every beat.”
Ponaflex, born Reis Vanputten, said, “To release these songs and perform them during Carnival back home, it’s a full-circle moment for me. This isn’t just about music. It’s about identity, pride, and showing the world what Bermuda brings to the Caribbean scene.
“Bermuda is always in the room when I create. We might be a small island, but our energy is loud, proud, and unforgettable.”
The spokesperson said, ““Superpower is a bold, unapologetic celebration of strength and self-worth, infused with Caribbean rhythm and pop swagger. Underwater, co-written with Trinidadian songwriter Shumba, was born from a deeply personal chapter in Ponaflex’s life, navigating major life changes and personal loss while trying to stay afloat.”
Ponaflex said, “When I wrote Underwater, I had just moved to Miami, landed a great job, and then found out my grandfather had cancer. I moved back to Boston to care for him, and everything just felt heavy. That song became my therapy.”
The spokesperson, said, “Underwater was produced by Jumaane McNeil, with Kyle Phillips, known for massive soca hits out of Trinidad, joining on to add his signature polish and power. Superpower was produced by Richard Gosine and Emmanuel Rudder. The songs are already making noise across TikTok and Instagram, building traction among DJs and soca fans across the Caribbean.
“Now, as Bermuda gears up for Carnival, Ponaflex is preparing for a standout homecoming, with live performances set for Waves, Glow, and Pure.
“Raised in St. George’s, Ponaflex grew up immersed in music. His mother worked at radio stations Hott 107.5 and Power 95, and his grandmother filled the house with Motown classics. After time in Boston and Los Angeles, he eventually rooted himself in Miami, where the Caribbean music scene helped him refine his sound and sharpen his vision.
“His mission now is to fuse soca and Caribbean genres with global pop influences, while keeping Bermuda at the center of the story.
“Superpower and Underwater are available now on all streaming platforms. To stay up to date with Ponaflex, follow him on Instagram.”
