    Bermuda………it’s another world???

    • Self-defence says:

There was just a 6 week self-defence course for all levels offered for $99, a great deal. Another soon available in the next few weeks. It isn’t just about fighting off an attacker, it teaches different tips and tricks most people wouldn’t think of as well as awareness in different situations. Definitely an option. Just ask for details.

      • .am says:

How would self defense help someone in these circumstances? The best you can do is not walk so close to the road, but a true opportunist would probably just get off their bike.

And, with a knife to your throat, would you recommend ‘defending’ yourself or simply walking away unscathed?

        • Self-defence says:

The fact you think not walking so close to the road is your only option is the reason there’s a course. I wouldn’t recommend anyone try to defend against a bladed weapon but there’s also no guarantee you you walk away unscathed either. Consider yourself lucky.

  2. PBanks says:

Absolutely disgusting. Hope they nab the crook.

  3. kat says:

Hope They catch these low lives ….. enough is enough so sad

  4. Warwick says:

How about some CCTV cameras on Pitt’s Bay Road?
This seems like a fairly frequent occurrence. Not only would they help catch the culprits, it would be a deterrent.
And if the police can’t afford to – how about the houses which are right on the road take up the initiative and put them on their homes?

    • Creamy says:

But Starling would complain that it makes him feel “uncomfortable”.

  5. Kathy says:

I remember several years ago an elderly woman lost her life because they dragged her to the ground trying to take her purse. There should be more cameras around Hamilton for the safety of our visitors.

Also, is this something the Princess Hotel would notify its guest of? Although it is not pleasant news and reflects very badly on our society, perhaps it can be prevented from happening again in the near future by way of information.

They say, when they get something, they come back again for it.

    • PBanks says:

Points taken, although in this case the victim wasn’t a hotel guest. Maybe it’s a combination of things needed to make things safer for travelers in this area of the island – lighting, cameras, sidewalks, and more importantly a commitment to getting crooks apprehended and jailed.

  6. swing voter says:

wen r we gonna set up decoys

  7. Truth says:

The problem is no jobs for the locals! Give these young man jobs instead of a foriegners. Not giving them an excuse but we live in a different generation & time. Food is expensive as well as clothes & shoes!

    • WTF says:

NOT TRUTH…Typical ignorance! They are lowlife scum that would be too lazy to work for a dollar so they prey on innocent women.

    • Ronald says:

Are u kidding me? I cannt believe u are making excuses for this dirtbag. People like u are as bad as the ***** grabbing ladies pocketbooks. U are pathetic. What happened to being human?

      Bermuda makes me sad.

    • Amazed says:

Do you honestly think these thugs are using the money they steal for clothes & shoes or even food for that matter. I certainly do not think so. If they have a bike, then they have money for gas. I wonder were the money for gas comes from?????

    • PBanks says:

I think you just unwittingly gave ‘them’ an excuse. Yes, the job market is difficult and it’s tough to make a living nowadays. But stealing from the innocent and the like is still plain wrong.

    • Franklin Jr says:

So… it’s okay to rob and physically harm people because you don’t have the education or experience to do the top job? Perhaps… start at the bottom?

    • Longtail says:

Not only is ‘Truth’ attempting to excuse this scum, he is trying to blame ‘foreigners’ instead!!!! It is a sad reflection on Bermuda that Truth actually believes what he has written!

  8. Amazed says:

Not saying this is the case BUT…I’ve seen so many women riding bikes or pillion passengers with their handbags draped over their right shoulders giving the crooks an easy snatch. Please be sensible and pack your handbags safely away out of sight if possible. I hope they catch the crook who took this ladies bag.

    • Kathy S. says:

I so agree. I don’t know guy ladies do that ugh. I ride n I don’t have a basket so I make sure I got a purse to go over my shoulders n a knapsack too. Can’t make it easy for them that’s the sad part. Be wise

  9. Mr.Speaker says:

Alot of these jobs want experience thats why alot of bermudians dont qualify. If your young and fresh out of high school how are you gonna have experience. ONLY IN BERMUDA smh

    • Tony Hayward says:

You move away from home to get that experience, just like you would have to anywhere else. I had to, and I didn’t resort to robbery.

    • WTF says:

I am sick of this only in Bermuda talk.. It is the same in any other country in the world. If you are young and fresh out of high school, you put yourself out there.. you volunteer, you go out and speak to people in the field you are interested in, you shred paper, you sweep floors, you do job shadowing until your fantastic attitude and work ethic gets you noticed by the people who are going to give you a chance.

Being lazy and a jacka** is no excuse to rob someone!

  10. bluebird says:

JUST DONT CARRY CASH AND VALUABLES IN A HANDBAG OR ON YOUR PERSON.So if they steal your handbag they can only do there “MAKEUP”.

    • Watcher55 says:

Not sure what good that does the poor individual that get dragged along the street or assaulted

    • .am says:

Leave your cell phone at home too, right?

    • Creamy says:

How exactly do you pay for things, if you’ve left everything at home?

Round up the scum and put them in jail. Make the place safe for the rest of us.

  11. bluebird says:

In the USA this type of theft has dropped,as from surveys 50% of the population will carry less than $20.00 in cash on them.

  12. bluebird says:

    @ truth,
I am just amazed at your stupidity as we have 10,000 work permits.
The reason we have 10,000 work permits is there are not enough Bermudians to fill the “JOBS”
Any Bermudian that wants to work and have a JOB can do so.
“NOBODY IS GOING TO COME AND KNOCK ON THERE DOOR.”
we don’t have a Government Department for that yet.
OR why don’t they get a job in GOVERMENT to join the other 8,000
on the Government payroll out of 25,000 workimg age Bermudians
At a cost of $1.1Billion dollars per year which we do not produce. And therefore have to “BORROW” 100′s of Millions of dollars each year from people outside Bermuda who will eventually want there money back.
without a work ethic no one will work.

  13. Unbelievable says:

Not saying this is the case BUT…I’ve seen so many women riding bikes or pillion passengers with their handbags draped over their right shoulders giving the crooks an easy snatch. Please be sensible and pack your handbags safely away out of sight if possible. I hope they catch the crook who took this ladies bag.

    • Creamy says:

Blame the victim. “She asked for it. She was carrying a bag”.

  14. Terry says:

    Back on topic.
Some have mentioned CTV/CCTV et al in the area and decoys.

If memory serves me the Greens who own and have just spent millions + on renovations and new structures could dip in and ‘hook-up’ to the above for less or a bit more that $100,000.

When it starts happening to their guests…………well yah know.

  15. Oh,I see now says:

Lazy is as lazy does….GUY CODE.

  16. Oh,I see now says:

Most of you are afraid of ya own children you know what they are doing……you know who you are!!!

  17. tom says:

As much as it hurts me, I thought as hard as I worked, and as hard as I work now. I thought that my work ethic would rub off on my children. I had bot hmy boys work at the hospital for me, my son was one of the first to be laid off as he “hung” with the wrong crowd and thought by showing up… he would just get paid cuz he was the bosses son. WRONG. ..not sure even now if he and the other guys got it. All I want,as do most employer’s is for someone to show up on time, do a reasonable days work with a good attude. Thats all I ask, is it to much to ask for.
now you guys… go ahead, rip me apart.

  18. Watcher55 says:

    CCTV still not working?

  19. Creamy says:

All motorbikes should have to display large clear number plates front and back.

  20. X man says:

CCTV Needs to be in every Isolated,Dark spot in Bermuda.—
The AWFUL People that do this type of crime travel Island wide to locate areas were is best for them to operate.

  21. MAKE MY DAY says:

That should “help” with the Tourism promotion!!! This is Pitts Bay Rd – NOT the back-of-town!!! In my neck-of-the-woods – the woman might have been legally carrying a “firearm” for self-protection… And just maybe this *Clown* would have found out (the hard way) that crime dose NOT pay!!
