Over 300 Affected In St George’s Power Outage

November 20, 2014

[Updated: All customers restored] Residents and shopkeepers found themselves in darkness this morning [Nov 20] after a power outage in St. George’s left approximately 319 customers without electricity.

A BELCO spokesperson confirmed the outage saying, “At 8:26 this morning there was a problem on a main line feeding into St. George’s that caused a circuit to trip effecting 319 customers.

“The banks, pharmacy and a few others have since had power restored and crews are on site working.”

Update 11.05am: A BELCO spokesperson explained that this is “due to an underground cable fault. Service has been restored to the majority of customers, and the remaining customers will be fed from a different line to get their power on – this will happen very shortly.

“These are temporary measures. Permanent repairs will commence when the weather clears, as the fault will have to be excavated, repaired and then the ground will be reinstated.”

Update 2.22pm: BELCO said that there was progressive restoration throughout the morning and early afternoon, and all customers were restored by 2:03.
