Rugby Classic: Italy & Classic Lions Advance

The 2014 World Rugby Classic continued last night [Nov 12] with Italy advancing to the Plate Final after defeating the USA, while the Classic Lions advanced to the Classic Final after defeating South Africa.

Italy Advance to the Plate Final: Italy 14 –  USA 7

The opener on the first semi-final night of the 2014 World Rugby Classic saw the United States dominate for long periods, however two mistakes cost them a spot in the Plate–Final.

Luca Martin went over for a Italy Try with only 3:25 remaining on the clock in the first half and Ramiro Pez kicked the conversion earning Italy a 7 – 0 lead. Marius Gossen went over for a try three minutes into the second half and when Pez kicked the conversion it doubled the Italy lead.

The united States of America did claw their way back into the match with a try from Johnathan Gray , with Leif Gibson kicking the conversion making the score 14 – 7.

Neither team could score again with Italy advancing to the Plate-Final.

Classic Lions Advance to the Classic Final: Classic Lions 13 – South Africa 7

This Semi-Final pitted the informed Classic Lions against the defending Classic champions South Africa. It was the defending champions that got on the scoreboard first with a try from Jake Boer, Reinhard Gerber kicked the conversion making the score 7 – 0.

The Lions looked to claw their way back into the game in the second half and they did just that when Chris Fortey went over for a Try and when Dan Parks kicked the Conversion it tied the score at 7 – 7.
