Darts: Christmas Turkey Shoot, League Results

December 19, 2014

The annual Christmas Turkey Shoot Fun Night was held on Monday, December 15, 2014 at The Docksider Pub and Restaurant on Front Street, bringing darts enthusiasts together for holiday-themed competition.

Part of the National Ranking Points System for Bermuda, the event saw nearly 20 players turn out for the seasonal fun.

A spokesperson said, “Bermuda has continued to see some outstanding darts thrown, not only during its regular events, but also in its league play so far this season.

“This event very much kept up that trend, with some brilliant arrows thrown in the first two rounds of play. The pick of these games saw leading female player Juliana D’Estelle Roe very unlucky in her 2-1 defeat by teammate Richard Phillips from Sandy’s B.C.”

“Also unlucky in a spirited 2-1 defeat was Bermuda darts stalwart Vernon Daniels, playing against an in-form Steven Almeida, also from Sandy’s B.C.

“Other results went more to the form book, with John Orr, Simon Stubby Carruthers, Ryan Kromer, and Nelson Almeida all getting through to the quarterfinal matches.

“Quarter Final results saw Ryan Kromer defeat Richard Phillips 2-1, John Orr defeat Nelson Almeida 2-0, Steve Almeida defeat Manny Real 2-0, and Simon Carruthers defeat Mario Silva 2-0, with those matches leading into the best of three legs semifinal.

“Ryan Kromer defeated John Orr 2-1 in a close game that saw Kromer overtake Vernon Daniels in the highest finish by taking out a 92 finish and booking his place in the final. Next up was a tense battle between two in-form players, with Carruthers coming out victorious 2-0 over a spirited effort from the young Steven Almeida.

“The final saw Kromer take on Carruthers in a Battle for the Turkeys. Kromer took the first leg, only to lose the next thanks to a 101 finish from Carruthers. Carruthers went on to win the deciding leg, taking the biggest bird with a 2-1 win.”

League Standings upto 8th Dec 2014

“Carruthers took home an 18 pound turkey, while runner-up Ryan Kromer won a 14 pound turkey. Carruthers also earned a 10 pound ham for his highest finish.

“Elsewhere, the Bermuda Darts League is well underway, with 10 teams competing in this year’s Monday night league. This year’s standings after the first few rounds are proof that this year’s league will be a lot more competitive than previous years.

“This is in part due to a reorganisation of players and teams to give all the teams a chance of lifting the illustrious title come June 2015.

“League Play is officially finished for 2014, but with this coming Monday scheduled as a make-up round for any teams that have games outstanding.”
