Select Darts Teams Compete At BAA Clubhouse
A Bermuda Select Team played against a Bermuda Filipino Select Team recently at the B.A.A. Clubhouse.
A spokesperson said, “This inaugural event was arranged after the demise of the Old ‘Onions’ versus ‘Limey’s’ Games from years gone by. It was decided to try and re-arrange a similar yearly event showcasing some of the islands top darts players.
“This was done by selecting the top five players available for each team from this year’s League Singles Standings. The players were Simon Carruthers [Capt], Marshall Weller, Gary Brangman, John Orr, and Boyd Lewis.”
“Team Philippines included Eliseo Eubenga [Capt], Hector Santiago, Renato Reyes, Rodel Lorenzo, and Fredie Albarido.
“The format was 25 Singles Games Best of 3 x 501; it was played in blocks of 5 games, with each Player playing his opposite team opponent once.
“Some fantastic darts were again showcased included numerous 180′s, and high finishes, including a 13 Dart Leg from Hector Santiago. The match went right down to the wire, and after the completion of the first 4 rounds the score was 9 – 11 to the Filipinos.”
“Meaning going into the Final 5 games Bermuda needed to win 4 matches for Victory, & the Filipino team needing only 2 for the win. Simon Carruthers then Beat Eliseo Eubenga, 2-0, to make it 10 – 11, John Orr, Beat Rodel Lorenzo, 2- 0, to make it 11 – 11.
“But then Fredie Albarido Beat Gary Brangman, 2 – 0, for a 12 -11 Filipino lead, Marshall Weller, Beat Hector Santiago, 2 – 0, for 12 – 12 tied Match. But in the end the Bermuda Filipino Darters held on for the Win, after Renato Reyes hit the winning double to Beat Boyd Lewis, 2- 1. To secure a very close, but deserved 13 – 12 victory.
“The MVP Award went to Hector Santiago. Congratulations Bermuda Filipino Darters on winning the Gregor MacQueen trophy, the Bermuda Cedar Oche.”
