December 1, 2014

[Updated] According to a post on their social media account, Davidrose Jewelry store, which is located on Water Street in St. George’s, was broken into early this morning [Dec 1] using a blow torch.

A post by the store on social media said, “Our store was broken into early this morning using a blow torch. Lucky for us it was just the display windows. If anyone knows any information on who did this we would be very grateful.

“As young business owners this hurts, but we will not allow this incident to bring us down and we will have a very positive day. Thank you to the police and our neighbours for all your support.”

When asked about this incident, a police spokesperson said, “Inquiries regarding this reported burglary are ongoing and any witnesses or persons with relevant information should contact the main police telephone number 295-0011 or the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline 800-8477.”

Update: Speaking to Bernews, the owners said that the thieves “used a blow torch and lots of force and stole a number of items in our display window.”

“We were gearing up for our upcoming holiday season as the National Trust walk is this Friday,” they added. “This incident is disappointing but we will not let it hinder our Christmas cheer. We urge anyone with any information to please contact the police.”

This really sucks. I hope they catch the criminals… Again! This seems to be happening way to often these days.

    • St. D says:

This sort of thing happens every so often, other than the fact that the thieves actually had to use some brains and had the motivation to get a blowtorch. Must have Googled it. Too bad they can’t put their mind power to something positive.

How awful! A hard working couple who are also so kind hearted. If you are so DESPERATE, ask for help. BUT PLEASE, do not steal or damage property from such nice people!

This is truly a sad story :-( More reason to open the police station in the old town 24 hrs. per day 7 days per week and 365 days and 366 each leap year! The police station serves no good to the commerce / residence in St. Georges by being located in St. Davids…It’s no security in the historical town :-(

  7. Truth is killin' me... says:

Police patrols not happening on a regular. Blow torch would take some time.

  9. OH VEY! says:

isn’t there a police station nearby?

but then there was the time a gang of like 10 thugs tried to assault me and my friends one night for no reason BESIDE the police station and not one person came out to help us.

oh, and here is a hint… most jewelry stores REMOVE VALUABLE ITEMS FROM DISPLAY WINDOWS WHEN THE STORE IS CLOSED. ALSO THEY TEND TO NOT PUT REAL JEWELRY IN THEM, BUT REPLICAS!

common sense ain’t free anymore I guess. where can i buy some?
