Post Office To Cease Opening On Saturdays

December 8, 2014

The Bermuda Post Office [BPO] announced that Saturday operations at the General Post Office [GPO] in Hamilton will cease effective December 27, 2014. The GPO will continue to operate Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

“The move to discontinue GPO Saturday operations comes in the wake of declining Saturday usage at this location over the past several years,” a spokesperson said.

“The Bermuda Post Office thanks the public for its support for its ongoing efforts to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of its operations and to provide cost savings to the public.”

      • Black Soil says:

I bet 99% of the public didn’t even know it was open on Saturdays. And of the 1% that did, 99% of them weren’t using it.

  2. Vote for Me says:

    Oh No!!

Will Perot’s Post Office remain open on Saturdays?

  3. bluebird says:

So the Post Office is still “LOOSING” $12million a year or $1Million per month.
Long over due to “privitize”the Post Office.

  4. North Rock says:

I never knew the GPO was open on Saturdays ! Another thought is to shut down half the so called sub Post Offices…nowhere in the world do they have a PO every few feet.

And who sends mail anyway…I suggest we cut it WAYYYYYY back.

Yeah, yeah….I know – what will all the people do ??? Fair question…give them first crack at jobs being created in new hotels, airport building program, whatever we can find for them

    • Truth says:

It is actually hilarious that there is more than one post office on the island. With so many, you’d think that you could get mail sent from the bank in less than 2 weeks, but no, that would not be the Bermuda way! I had a wedding invitation sent from Canada that didn’t arrive until after the wedding, and it had been opened! What did they think was in there?

    Who’s going to notice.

  6. Cafe Au Lait says:

The post office in Bermuda as well as the taxi service are legendary for how bad they are. In fact the sage commission said that the post office is 80% overstaffed.

    EIGHTY PERCENT !!!!!!!!!

Both of these are a national embarrassment.

    • Common sense says:

The taxi service is not public. They are two separate entities which cannot be compared. All countries around the world have a bloated civil service workforce. What is your solution to have everyone on financial assistance? Your a national embarrassment.

  7. Beam me up Sparku says:

Hopefully with a rest on Saturday the staff at the parcel office will be able to move at lightening speed now!!

  8. Jones says:
