Education Minister Meets CedarBridge Students
Newly appointed Minister of Education Wayne Scott yesterday made his first official visit to CedarBridge Academy. Accompanied by the Acting Permanent Secretary, Valerie Robinson James, Minister Scott met with the administration and student leaders.
He met first with CedarBridge Principal, Mrs. Kalmar Richards and administrators and discussed academics, art, athletics, support and student services and facility management. Following the meeting with administration, Minister Scott had a lengthy discussion with student leaders. He queried the students on their expectations of the Ministry of Education.
Minister Scott said, “When I asked the students what they expected from the Ministry, there was no hesitation; they shared their concerns regarding consistency with testing and graduation requirements; increasing IGSC opportunities at the middle school and insisting on raising the bar so that all students can perform at a higher level.”
The Minister added, “These young leaders are filled with school pride. They are very supportive of their school administration and the opportunities afforded to them at Cedarbridge. Clearly the students have embraced their school theme ‘Push Until Success Happens’.
“Overall, it was good meeting, insightful discussion and clearly we have to raise the bar and be accountable to all our students to provide the best education possible.”
A statement from the Ministry said, “During his first week as Minister of Education, Minister Scott has had a busy schedule beginning with a visit to Purvis Primary School, Child Development Programme and an informal courtesy call with the Bermuda Union of Teachers. At the Department of Education’s first meeting with School Administrators for the New Year, Minister Scott used the opportunity to greet all public school Principals.
“He recognized and commended them on their hard work and commitment to the education of our children. Minister Scott also elaborated on his commitment to Public School Education and his anticipation of visiting all schools and collaborating with school leaders in the months ahead.”
