The Bermuda Cricket Board Executive has ratified a number of recommendations relating to the domestic cricket league, including a reduction in Premier League teams in 2016, and changes to the transfer/loan policy.
The changes relating to the domestic cricket league are as follows:
- The number of teams in the Premier and First Division will remain at 7 for the 2015 season
- In 2016 the Premier League will be reduced to 6 teams
- To accommodate this change 2 teams will be relegated from the Premier and 1 team will be promoted from the First Division
- The Logic Play-off game will be between the 5th placed team in the Premier and the 2nd placed team in the First Division
- Clubs that have not paid their 2015 dues and their 2014 umpire fees by close of business on June 12th will be deducted 13 points
- Clubs are required to register their home field with the BCB by March 9th. Failure to register on time will incur a late registration fee of $200
The changes approved to the transfer/loan policy are as follows:
- The late transfer period [section 4.0] and second late transfer period [section 4.2] requirement to wait six [6] week to play has been removed in order to facilitate the BCB’s goal to allow cricketers to play more cricket.
- The conditions under which a player can apply for a second late transfer has changed. A player who has played less than three [3] games for their club would be allowed to transfer using the second late transfer period, as long as the request is before to the close of business on the evening prior to the Annual Cup Match Classic.
The Bermuda Cricket Board [BCB] has also confirmed that it is currently updating its strategic plan, with a comprehensive stakeholder review already completed, in addition to an update of its SWOT analysis, support structures and pathway review.
On February 6 and February 7, 2015, the BCB met to review its vision statement, mission and values; define strategic directions and goals; and identify actions and success indicators.
Could the BCB still be full of hot air ?
Time will tell ……
