BHS Presented With CIS Accreditation Plaque
In recognition of their accreditation with the The Council of International Schools [CIS] in October 2014, the Bermuda High School [BHS] recently received a plaque that highlights the achievement.
The accreditation was earned following two years of self-evaluation and development and a rigorous verification by an 11-member international visiting team. In doing so, BHS joined schools like Pearson College UWC in Canada, United Nations International School in the United States, the American School in London, Tokyo International School and the International School of Paris.
The Chair of the BHS Board of Trustees, Mariette Savoie, together with Deputy Chair Dr. Janet Kemp and Head of School, Linda Parker, were on hand to receive the official plaque.
CIS is a non-national, non-regionally affiliated organisation and the status of CIS Accreditation confers an international recognition to stakeholders all over the world.
CIS accreditation demonstrates a school’s commitment to high quality international education to the school community as well as to the outside world: prospective families, educational leaders and teachers as well as universities, embassies, other government departments, and global companies and organisations.
In his congratulatory letter, Dr. Graham Ranger, Director of School Support and Evaluation with the Council of International Schools, praised the school faculty and staff, saying, “In the classroom, the visiting team noted the level of commitment among the faculty and staff to the students, highlighted by a strong sense of pride and accomplishment that is palpable at BHS.
“The visiting team was also impressed with the Board and its commitment to the school.”
John Heard, School Support & Evaluation Officer for the Council of International Schools [CIS] presenting the CIS Accreditation Award to BHS Head of School, Linda Parker and Chair of the Board of Trustees, Mariette Savoie.
Head of School Linda Parker said, “I have always believed that we offer a world-class education at BHS, which provides students with the knowledge, skills and abilities to pursue their lives as confident, responsible, global citizens.
“To have this validated by the Council of International Schools is further proof that we are fulfilling our mission and vision to be the best school in Bermuda for girls in Years 1-11 and for all of our students in the co-educational International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.”
To earn accreditation, schools must go through the CIS School Evaluation and Accreditation process, which drives a school’s continuous improvement through rigorous evaluation, across the whole school, against internationally-agreed standards that cover the School’s Guiding Statements, Teaching and Learning, Governance, Faculty, Operational Systems and Partnerships with Stakeholders; a blend of support and challenge, focused on a school’s development; and >a peer-based model that brings together international educators from across the world of CIS-accredited schools.
Chairman of the Board of Trustees Joel Schaefer commended the staff at BHS, saying “ Linda Parker and her team of teachers and administrators have been steadfast in their commitment to this self-evaluation and improvement process over the past two years.
“Earning this accreditation put BHS firmly in the ranks of leading international schools around the globe and the Board of Trustees of The Bermuda High School fully supported and helped the School work towards this important accreditation.”
