BHS Introduces A Levels Programme
Beginning in September 2023, BHS “will offer the option to study either the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme [IBDP] or Advanced Levels [A Levels] in Years 12 and 13, to all students in Bermuda.”
A spokesperson said, “By offering the A Level Programme, students now have the option to choose the course of study which best suits them personally, academically and aspirationally. The majority of BHS teachers have taught A Levels before, so the School is well-positioned to move forward with this option in the next school year. Current Year 11 students will be the first cohort with this choice and they will make their decision in January 2023.”
What are A Levels?
A spokesperson said, “Levels are a UK-based qualification, studied after GCSEs. It is a highly respected qualification which is recognised for higher education entry in the UK, North America and around the world. Students choose 3 or 4 subjects to study in depth over one or two years, with final exams marked on an A*- G grading scale, taken at the end of Year 12 and Year 13. Most universities and higher education institutes will require a minimum of 3 subjects, sometimes based on certain grades in specific subjects.”
Head of School, Linda Parker states, “Our current students will have the priority of places, and we anticipate that there are likely to be an additional 10-15 places available for new students. By introducing this well-respected international qualification alongside our long-standing successful IB Diploma Programme, we are confident that this additional pathway will enhance the BHS experience for all of our current and future students, as they enter their last two years of High School.”
