Golf: Campbell & Burgess Win Match Play Titles
Walker Campbell and Ebonie Burgess are the 2015 Bermuda Amateur Match Play Champions after play concluded at the Mid Ocean Golf Course.
The final matches of the Bermuda Match Play Championships concluded this weekend in some challenging conditions at the Mid Ocean Club. The Men & Ladies championship flights went out early in the morning as they were playing a 36 hole final.
The Ladies match between Burgess and Elizabeth Parsons started in light drizzle with a strong westerly wind. Shortly after they teed off, the drizzle turned into heavy showers which caused flooding on the greens.
The Men’s match between Campbell and Jevon Roberts was delayed for about 30 minutes while the grounds crew were summoned to squeegee the water off the greens. The weather finally cleared and enabled the matches to be finished.
Walker defeated Jevon Roberts in their 36 hole play-off 5 and 4, Campbell was up 5 after the first 18 holes. Burgess defeated Elizabeth Parsons 3 & 2, the pair battled down to the wire with Burgess holding a 2 hole lead after 18.
Craig Christensen defeated Hav Trott to take the Men’s Senior Title 1 up, while Gray Yancey defeated Steven Hickmott in the Men’s Senior Consolation Final 3 and 2.
Cindy Kinjo-Hardart won the Ladies Senior Consolation Final 5 and 3 over Sandy Hutchings.
Jarryd Dillas defeated Greg Reilly Jr. to win the men’s Consolation Final 4 and 2, while Katrin Burnie defeated Tracy Nash to win the Ladies Consolation Final.
Christopher Souter defeated Damian Palanyandi in the Men’s First Flight Final, while Mikus Ming won the Men’s First Flight Consolation Final 7 and 5 over Andrew Bissell.
