April 2, 2015

The Bermuda Cricket Board National Academy [BCBNA] has a tour scheduled to the UK in August 2015, for the Under 14 and Under 16 National Teams.

Whilst on tour, the national players will expect to compete against local UK teams from schools such as Bedes and Felsted mixing with other young cricketers from various different social and cultural backgrounds and experiencing international competition at a very competitive level.

Players will have the opportunity to have a number of site-seeing excursions including a guided tour of Lords Cricket Ground and will have the opportunity to watch a day’s play at a First Class Cricket match.

Throughout the time there will be a strong focus on improving their personal diet and nutrition, developing life-skills in addition to learning what it takes to be a professional sportsman.

The BCB saod, “Regular international competition is a critical component of the development scheme towards elite performance. The overall aim of the tour is to provide players with international competition where their skills, knowledge and development can be extended and tested against cricketers from other countries.

“In addition the tour will build on the local Academy program and will provide the players with the following:

  • a broad range of cultural experiences within and beyond the shores of Bermuda;
  • the opportunity to interact and develop friendships with players from different cultures and countries;
  • cultural and racial appreciation and tolerance; and
  • cricket related lifetime experiences.

Lloyd Fray, President of the BCB noted, “The financing of this tour will be a combination of sponsorship, player fundraising and parent contribution and I am really pleased to see that the players started early to raise the funds to pay for this amazing opportunity.

“In the next couple of weeks we have some exciting fundraisers planned and I encourage the Bermuda Community to support their initiatives. In particular, they have organised a tag day on Wednesday 1 April and Thursday 2 April and a movie fundraiser showing HOME on Sunday 29 March and Thursday 2 April at Liberty Theatre. There is also a pot luck and car wash scheduled throughout April and May.”
