Endurance Holdings Welcomes James Engel

Endurance Specialty Holdings Ltd., a Bermuda-based specialty provider of property and casualty insurance and reinsurance, announced that James Engel has joined Endurance as Chief Claims Officer with responsibility for the overall strategic direction of the company’s global claims operation. Mr. Engel joins Endurance with significant experience leading and advancing the capabilities of large, complex claims organizations. He is based in Endurance’s New York City office, reporting to Brian Goshen, Endurance’s Chief Administrative Officer.

Mr. Goshen commented, “We are extremely pleased to welcome a Claims leader of Jim’s caliber and experience to Endurance. He has proven his leadership and technical capabilities over more than 40 years as he has evolved and developed the claims operations of several P&C carriers. We are confident that he will apply similar best practices here at Endurance as we implement a new claims technology solution, improve our analytics and ensure that our claims function meets the highest standards of service and operational excellence.”

Mr. Engel joins Endurance from Liberty International Underwriters [LIU] where he served as Chief Claims Officer for the Americas for the past five years and, prior to that, in a similar role for Zurich North America for six years. Mr. Engel began his career at Cigna Property & Casualty, where he held leadership roles with increasing responsibility before being promoted to Senior Vice President and Chief Claims Officer for North American in 1985. He then assumed the role of Executive Vice President and Chief Claims Officer at ACE USA when they acquired the Cigna business.
