Premier: “Highlight Our Rich & Diverse Culture”

May 24, 2015

This evening, Premier Michael Dunkley extended well wishes to residents in advance of the Bermuda Day holiday, saying, “May is traditionally known as Heritage Month. It’s a time where we reflect on and highlight our rich and diverse culture.

“The preservation and sustainability of Bermuda’s cultural legacy is vital to all of us knowing, appreciating and embracing our history, as this is what binds us together as Bermudians.

“The Bermuda Day festivities, provide an excellent opportunity to showcase our unique heritage. In fact, there’s nothing quite like this exciting occasion. I will be joining residents and visitors in watching the Bermuda Day Parade along Front Street, and I’m truly looking forward to celebrating and enjoying this annual event.”

This year’s theme is Bermuda: An Atlantic Garden, and the Premier considers the theme to be “quite fitting”, as it provides an opportunity to not only celebrate our surrounding marine area, but it also provides an opportunity to highlight the importance of Bermuda’s long and proud maritime history.

The Premier extended thanks to the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs for all their efforts in promoting the Island’s cultural heritage and for making Heritage Month and the Bermuda Day Parade so successful each year.

Premier Dunkley closed by wishing all half marathon runners, inline skaters, fitted dinghy sailors and Sinclair Packwood cyclists the “best of luck” during their respective events tomorrow.

And he concluded, “To all of those who will be spending the holiday either at the parade, at the beach, boating or simply relaxing at home, on behalf of the Government, have a safe and wonderful Bermuda Day!”

  1. Happiness? Shamefully, on this Premier’s watch… same-sex couples and gender-variant folk still don’t enjoy full equality on Bermuda…

Rolling Stone fans will remember this song back in 1965… As they created – a world-famous song called *Get-off-of-my-Cloud*!!! Hey ALL you…. GET OFF OF MY CLOUD!!!
