Photos: 5th Annual Reading Day At Elliot Primary
Elliot Primary held its 5th Annual Reading Day today [May 29] which included a creative assembly where students discussed 15 reasons why reading was important, a t-shirt initiative, and men coming to the school to read with the students.
The highlight of the morning was each student proudly wearing their creative, artistically designed t-shirt from a book they had read, with almost every student in the school taking part in the initiative which appeared to be a huge success.
On the front of his t-shirt, P3 student Dakari Saunders proudly displayed the colorful book cover which his parents authored and illustrated. Pete and Annessa Saunders popular book, Happy’s Big Day is a fiction story about a crab that has an unforgettable adventure.

The students were also thrilled to watch a lively parade of t-shirts by the Elliot Primary Staff. The winners were: first place – Mrs. Steede [Braille Teacher] second place Mrs. Carr [Art Teacher], and third place – Mrs. Paynter [Administrative Assistant]. Honorable Mention was also awarded to Ms. Brangman [P3 Teacher].
Then, as traditional, at 11am, men arrived on the school campus to read and interact with the students. The smiles of children could be seen as they read everywhere on our campus with their Dads, Grandpas, Pastors and friends.
Elliot’s Literacy Coach, Ms. Pauletta Francis extended a “special thank you to the men who have repeatedly supported our vision to make the difference in the lives of our children. Also, thank you to the awesome, supportive parents who have worked diligently with their children designing amazing T-shirts over the past 5 weeks.
“And last but certainly not least, a heartfelt thank you goes out to the phenomenal staff at Elliot Primary who bought into the vision,” added Ms. Francis. “Elliot Primary is the school where “literacy rocks.”
